Stripe is looking for software engineers who move with urgency, enjoy solving difficult problems, and want to build products with broad impact. Engineers work on products and projects that can be rapidly deployed to millions of businesses while having significant individual agency.

Responsibilities

  • Build solutions to complex problems with far-reaching consequences.
  • Learn unfamiliar systems through independent research, mentorship, and collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Work collaboratively on multi-person coding projects.
  • Explain technical work clearly to stakeholders, team members, and other Stripe employees.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate development while applying critical thinking and professional judgment to review, refine, and validate outputs.
  • Contribute to code reviews and safely update production systems.
  • Navigate and manage work in large codebases.
  • Lead small projects independently and contribute to larger projects alongside peers.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a directly related field, obtained by summer 2027, or equivalent work experience.
  • New graduate candidates must have no more than 18 months of professional experience, excluding internships.
  • Programming experience through side projects, coursework, internships, or professional work.
  • Familiarity with programming fundamentals. Stripe primarily uses Java, Ruby, JavaScript, Scala, and Go, but candidates can learn new languages if they have strong fundamentals and general programming knowledge.
  • Experience from previous internships or collaborative coding projects in a university or professional setting.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar systems and understand them through independent research and mentorship.
  • Clear written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized knowledge in one or more areas such as frontend, backend, infrastructure, or other technologies, combined with broad technical skills and knowledge.
  • Experience with code review practices and safely updating production systems.
  • Familiarity with large codebases.
  • Experience leading small projects independently and contributing to larger projects with peers.
  • Ability to navigate complex technical obstacles independently, recognizing when to continue investigating and when to ask for help.
