Details

The Systems Integration team builds the infrastructure, tooling, and validation systems that ensure device software is reliable, testable, and ready to ship. The team works across automated test frameworks, hardware-in-the-loop labs, release pipelines, developer tools, automation, systems integration, and cross-team collaboration.

As a Software Engineer, Quality and Developer Tools, you will build and own systems that validate device software, including test frameworks, regression infrastructure, hardware-in-the-loop labs, and release gates. You will design tooling and automation, integrate quality signals into CI/CD, and create reliable, repeatable workflows for engineers and QA vendor technicians. This role is based in San Francisco, California, and follows a hybrid model requiring four days in the office per week.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain a unified test framework for device software across unit, integration, system, and end-to-end testing.
  • Build reproducible test runs with integrations to GitHub, Linear, and Slack.
  • Integrate test suites with Buildkite and enforce promotion criteria for staging and production.
  • Automatically file regressions and publish traceable artifacts and release notes.
  • Plan and bring up hardware-in-the-loop lab racks, power systems, networking systems, and test orchestration.
  • Support automated device flashing, provisioning, and telemetry capture.
  • Develop tools for API and firmware validation, result triage, log capture, replayable bug reports, and engineering workflows.
  • Build dashboards and alerts for pass rates, stability, and release readiness.
  • Detect and quarantine flaky tests, drive root-cause analysis with owners, and track delivery metrics that protect release health.
  • Create procedures and tooling for QA vendor technicians, review their reports, and maintain a queue of rig maintenance and repairs.
  • Partner with embedded and systems software teams on testability.
  • Collaborate with release infrastructure engineers on pipelines, signing, staged rollouts, and rollback or forward strategies.

Requirements

  • Deep experience building software quality, test automation, or developer tooling systems for hardware products shipped at scale.
  • Proficiency in Python, C, C++, or Rust.
  • Strong Linux fundamentals, including processes, networking, storage, and udev/systemd.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines, artifact management systems, and reproducible or isolated test environments.
  • Demonstrated success designing and operating hardware-in-the-loop labs and device orchestration systems at scale.
  • Fluency with test reliability techniques, including failure triage, flake detection and quarantine, and signal-quality guardrails.
  • Strong debugging skills across software, firmware, devices, and release infrastructure.
  • Ability to work effectively across teams and improve the scalability and reliability of engineering and release processes.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $293,000–$325,000 per year, plus equity.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
  • Pre-tax accounts for health, dependent care, and commuter expenses.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
  • Paid parental, medical, and caregiver leave.
  • Paid time off, paid company holidays, office closures, and paid sick or safe time.
  • Mental health and wellness support.
  • Employer-paid basic life and disability coverage.
  • Annual learning and development stipend.
  • Daily office meals and eligible meal delivery credits.
  • Relocation support for eligible employees.
  • Additional benefits may include charitable donation matching and wellness stipends.
