Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to U.S. government customers, helping them understand how GitLab Enterprise Edition and the DevSecOps platform can address business and mission outcomes.
  • Own the technical evaluation and validation stages of the sales cycle.
  • Engage with public sector customers onsite and remotely throughout the pre-sales process through tailored demonstrations, technical presentations, and hands-on workshops.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to shape and execute account strategies that drive GitLab adoption in government environments.
  • Design and deliver proofs of concept and proofs of value, and provide tender, audit, and proposal support.
  • Lead the creation of Customer Success Plans covering technical success criteria and pre-sales handoff details.
  • Build relationships with technical and business stakeholders and help them become GitLab advocates within their organizations.
  • Channel customer feedback and insights to Product, Sales, Marketing, and other GitLab teams to influence product roadmaps and messaging.
  • Maintain and expand expertise in GitLab and related modern software development, operations, and cloud technologies.
  • Create reusable examples and assets for customers and partners.
  • Run Value Stream Assessments to identify opportunities to improve customers' software delivery with GitLab.

Requirements

  • Experience in technical pre-sales, consulting, or information technology roles, ideally with U.S. public sector or federal customers.
  • Experience guiding customers through technical evaluations and solution design.
  • Hands-on experience using GitLab.
  • Familiarity with modern software development and operations practices, including CI/CD, DevSecOps, and automation.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms and related technologies in regulated or security-conscious environments.
  • Ability to connect technical solutions to measurable business or mission outcomes and advise senior stakeholders on tradeoffs and options.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including leading customer meetings, demonstrations, and value-focused conversations in partnership with sales and cross-functional teams.
  • Openness to learning, seeking feedback, and building new skills.
  • Familiarity with GitLab's Solutions Architect handbook and related resources.

Team

The Public Sector Solutions Architect role is part of GitLab's distributed Solutions Architect team. The team collaborates asynchronously across time zones using GitLab and handbook-first practices to share knowledge, reusable examples, and best practices. The role addresses public sector challenges including security, compliance, and mission-critical software delivery, while contributing customer insights that shape product direction.

Compensation

The United States base salary range is $103,650–$197,550 USD. The range does not include bonuses, equity, or benefits. Sales roles may also be eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.
