Details
The Cloud Infrastructure team delivers and operates the foundational platforms and cloud environment that power Airbnb. The team builds reliable, secure, efficient, and ergonomic platforms for Airbnb services to run in the cloud, working with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, open-source projects such as Kubernetes and Istio, and peer companies on cloud-native engineering challenges at scale.
As a Software Engineer on the Cloud Infrastructure team, you will develop and operate infrastructure platforms supporting teams across Airbnb. Your work will focus on developer APIs and CLIs, Kubernetes infrastructure, autoscaling and capacity management tools, and cloud infrastructure automation. The team emphasizes reliability, scalability, efficiency, and high availability.
Responsibilities
- Build cloud-native infrastructure using public cloud technologies.
- Deliver secure, efficient, mature, and highly available frameworks and platforms that simplify infrastructure complexity.
- Optimize and enhance existing systems and services to improve performance and operational efficiency.
- Improve system availability by implementing distributed-systems best practices.
- Develop and operate developer APIs and CLIs, Kubernetes infrastructure, autoscaling and capacity management tools, and cloud infrastructure automation.
- Collaborate with infrastructure engineers to establish a foundation for Airbnb's technological growth.
- Own systems throughout the full software lifecycle, including development, production operation, debugging, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 10+ years of industry experience with a bachelor's or master's degree, and 2+ years with a PhD, preferably in computer science, or equivalent experience.
- Proven track record developing and operating large-scale technical projects in collaboration with experienced engineers.
- Expert-level Kubernetes experience, including operating Kubernetes at scale.
- Expertise with public cloud providers such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure and their Infrastructure as a Service offerings, such as Amazon EC2.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience building and operating high-scale, distributed systems throughout the software life cycle.
- Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Strong problem-solving and production-debugging abilities.
- Passion for efficiency, availability, reliability, and overall system quality.
Location
This position is US remote eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Candidates must live in a state where Airbnb Payments, Inc. is a registered entity. Approved remote states include Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington.
Compensation
The base pay range is $212,000–$265,000 USD. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
