About the Team

The Data team builds cost-effective, understandable, and trustworthy data systems. The team operates pipelines processing billions of events per day and manages canonical data warehouses and datasets that deliver products for Stripe users. The team also partners with product teams to build data products, leads data culture and education, invests in AI-driven Data Ops, and provides escalation support for data incidents.

The Data Engineering Solutions team works closely with product teams to deliver trustworthy data, backend code, and innovative AI tools, platforms, and services for data.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical outcomes for a team of talented engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and support.
• Partner with recruiting to attract and hire top talent.
• Deliver reliable and efficient data pipelines that scale to users’ needs.
• Develop subject matter expertise and manage the SLAs of data pipelines and full-stack web applications supporting critical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with product managers and peers to create and improve canonical datasets and data warehouses, use golden paths, and ensure trustworthy data usage.
• Leverage AI, large language models, and agents at scale to produce and analyze high-quality data for ambiguous problems.
• Drive key data initiatives across the full development lifecycle, from planning through delivery.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Staff-level experience, typically involving 10 or more years building and operating data systems, pipelines, warehouses, and infrastructure, as well as leading teams.
• A strong engineering background and passion for data, with experience writing and debugging data pipelines using a distributed data framework.
• An inquisitive approach to investigating data inconsistencies, identifying issues, and resolving deep-rooted data quality problems.
• Knowledge of a backend development language such as Scala, Java, or Go, along with strong SQL experience.
• A customer-focused approach and commitment to partnering with product teams, business leaders, and other engineers.
• Effective cross-functional collaboration, clear communication, rigorous thinking, and the ability to make or coordinate difficult decisions and trade-offs.
• Ability to thrive with high autonomy and responsibility in an ambiguous environment.
• Ability to foster and work in a healthy, inclusive, challenging, and supportive environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with some or all of Stripe’s technology stack: Iceberg, Kafka, Change Data Capture, Flink, Spark, Airflow, Hive Metastore, Pinot, Trino, and AWS Cloud.
• Experience influencing open-source contributions.
• Experience creating and maintaining data marts and warehouses for business reporting.
• Experience collaborating with Product, Go-To-Market, Sales, or Marketing teams.
• Interest in innovation and understanding how systems work, with the ability to question and direct architectural decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for leadership, users, and company-wide audiences.
