Reddit is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to develop and maintain the backend infrastructure for its developer platform. The role involves building scalable, highly available, reliable, and low-latency systems at internet scale, while collaborating with teams across different backgrounds and specialties.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain the underlying infrastructure of the developer platform.
Build new features for external developers, including SQL database as a service.
Create and drive the Storage as a Service strategy.
Build the technical foundation for future features and experiences.
Contribute to the entire development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
Review code and design documents and provide feedback on product specifications and mocks.
Contribute meaningfully to team strategy and participate in future planning.
Help create a collaborative and supportive team with a strong sense of ownership.
Mentor and coach other engineers while leading by example in software engineering best practices.
Provide technical leadership in the execution of large-scale projects and day-to-day troubleshooting.

Requirements

7+ years of industry experience in backend engineering, infrastructure, developer tools, or application platforms.
Experience with Go, TypeScript, Redis, distributed SQL, and Kubernetes.
Passion for developing scalable, well-designed software.
Entrepreneurial, self-directed, innovative, and action-oriented approach in fast-paced and ambiguous environments.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote environment and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $217,000–$303,000 USD. The position may span more than one career level and may also be eligible for commission depending on the position offered.
