About proficiency levels:
- 1-2 — basic awareness. Minimal hands-on experience, and a rudimentary understanding of the technology's purpose;
- 3-6 — daily use. Comfortable and regular usage, capable of handling common tasks and challenges related to the technology;
- 7-9 — you are an expert, you can teach others, you know all the pitfalls and tricks;
- 10 — exceptional knowledge, comprehensive understanding, and adeptness in all aspects of the technology, including advanced problem-solving. Think twice before claiming or demanding such level.

Details
Anthropic's Infrastructure organization builds systems that support reliable AI development, safety experiments, and scaling Claude. Developer Productivity owns the end-to-end experience of how engineers and researchers develop, build, test, and ship code at scale.
This role focuses on configuration and experimentation systems that enable safe rollouts, controlled experiments, and data-driven decisions across Anthropic's products and infrastructure. The work includes feature flagging, dynamic configuration, and A/B testing platforms for research and production workloads.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical strategy and roadmap for configuration and experimentation infrastructure.
- Translate team-level goals into concrete execution plans and partner with teams focused on deployment, testing, and related areas.
- Maintain and enhance the architecture for feature flagging, dynamic configuration, and experimentation systems.
- Design and build scalable, reliable distributed infrastructure and shared libraries supporting high-volume experimentation and configuration workloads across engineering teams.
- Own and evolve platforms and tooling that allow engineers and researchers to safely ship configuration changes, run experiments, and measure impact.
- Define standards, tooling, and frameworks for experimentation and configuration management to improve developer productivity across research and production workloads.
Requirements
- Deep experience with configuration management, feature flagging, and/or experimentation platforms in a large-scale environment.
- Strong proficiency in Python, Rust, and/or Go.
- A strong focus on developer productivity and reducing friction in how teams configure, test, and ship changes.
- Experience with container orchestration and infrastructure at scale.
- Excellent communication skills and an interest in supporting internal partners to improve their development experience.
- Ability to design foundational systems and work independently on ambiguous, high-impact technical challenges.
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- A relevant field of study as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
Strong Candidate Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience, excluding internships or co-ops, in a software engineering role building and operating large-scale developer infrastructure.
- 3+ years of experience, excluding internships or co-ops, leading large-scale, complex projects or teams as an engineer or tech lead.
- Experience with configuration or experimentation platforms such as Statsig, GrowthBook, LaunchDarkly, Optimizely, Unleash, or similar platforms, including building such systems in-house.
- Experience designing experimentation frameworks involving randomization, assignment, metrics pipelines, and statistical analysis for A/B testing at scale.
- Experience with dynamic configuration systems and safe rollout mechanisms, including gradual rollouts, kill switches, and targeting rules.
- Experience building CLI tools, developer-facing services, and APIs or automation workflows that integrate configuration and experimentation into existing CI/CD pipelines.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation and benefits.
- Optional equity donation matching.
- Generous vacation and parental leave.
- Flexible working hours.
- Office space for collaboration.
- Visa sponsorship may be available; Anthropic states that it sponsors visas and makes reasonable efforts to obtain visas for successful candidates, with immigration lawyer support.
The application deadline is rolling with no stated final deadline. The location-based hybrid policy currently expects staff to be in one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time.
