Details

Coinbase is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Native Mobile to join the App Infra team within the Consumer & Business group. The team is leading a greenfield native mobile app rewrite, replacing the existing React Native app with native Swift and Kotlin builds and using AI-driven agentic workflows to translate and rebuild core surfaces for millions of customers.

Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end architecture and delivery of core native app surfaces in Swift and Kotlin.
Establish constrained architecture and compile-time boundaries that enforce strict quality standards.
Lead agentic code translation workflows and build automated systems for recurring migration work.
Determine which parts of the translation pipeline should be automated and which require human review.
Own developer experience for the native codebase, including build speeds, local development workflows, CI/CD reliability, architectural patterns, and documentation.
Shape the dual-app agentic synchronization strategy during the transition between native and React Native codebases.
Define daily agent automations and human review processes to keep the codebases in sync.
Lead throughout Coinbase's mobile community by defining best practices, mentoring L3–L5 mobile engineers, and fostering collaboration among mobile engineers.

Requirements

8+ years of iOS or Android mobile software engineering experience with Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android.
Working proficiency in the other mobile platform and willingness to develop cross-platform fluency.
Experience shipping high-quality mobile applications at scale, including ownership of architecture decisions, performance budgets, and release quality.
Deep understanding of mobile performance optimization, including cold start, frame stability, scroll jank, and time to interaction.
Experience profiling and tuning applications across device tiers, including low-end Android devices.
Ability to translate organizational strategy into team-level technical execution, build alignment across cross-team and cross-functional partners, and secure commitment on migration timelines and quality standards.
Experience with AI-assisted code generation or LLM-driven development workflows, including judgment about what to automate and what requires human review.
Experience improving developer experience through build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and release tooling, with improvements adopted beyond the immediate team.
Ability to use generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight and delivering business-ready outputs with measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

Annual base salary ranges from $218,025 to $256,500 USD, excluding equity and bonus. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only, company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called “surges.”
