Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Native Mobile to join the App Infra team within the Consumer & Business group. The team is executing a greenfield rewrite of Coinbase's retail mobile app from React Native to native Swift and Kotlin, using AI-assisted code generation to deliver a faster, higher-quality experience for millions of customers.

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only, company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called "surges."

Responsibilities

• Own the development of core app surfaces in Swift and Kotlin, translating existing React Native flows into performant native implementations that meet strict performance budgets.
• Set the project-level quality bar through code and design reviews.
• Build within an AI-assisted code generation workflow, using LLM-driven translation while applying native mobile expertise to validate architecture, identify edge cases, and ensure production-quality output.
• Accelerate Frontend engineers across Coinbase by defining architectural patterns, improving build speeds, and establishing effective development workflows.
• Partner with product teams during onboarding by reviewing native pull requests, challenging suboptimal patterns, and addressing slow paths such as flaky tests, difficult deployments, and ambiguous handoffs between native and React Native codebases.
• Drive performance optimization across device tiers, with particular attention to low-end Android devices, by eliminating loading indicators, scroll jank, and stall counts through robust architectural solutions and trade-off analysis.
• Contribute to the dual-app parity strategy during the transition from React Native to native applications, reducing relevant technical debt and ensuring feature and bug-fix synchronization between codebases.

Requirements

• 5+ years of iOS or Android mobile software engineering experience using Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android.
• Demonstrated ability to build and ship performant mobile applications, with a focus on frame stability, cold-start optimization, and responsive user interfaces across diverse device populations.
• Proficiency in Swift or Kotlin, with working knowledge of the other language and willingness to develop cross-platform fluency across iOS and Android.
• Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and release processes.
• A track record of delivering project-level outcomes that provide benefits beyond the immediate development cycle.
• Responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

• Annual base salary range: $186,065–$218,900 USD.
• Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, and vision benefits.
