Details

Our AI team builds GenAI applications that go into production at one of the Netherlands' largest banks. Voice agents handling thousands of contact center calls. AI lending assistants support lenders in writing credit proposals. Agentic workflows that actually make it to users.

We don't stop at prototypes. We build, ship, measure, iterate, and do it fast. If you've got concrete experience building AI applications and you're looking to deploy at a scale most companies won't give you for years, read on.

Responsibilities

You build GenAI applications end-to-end: from the first conversation with a business team through to production. Your focus depends on the specific use case; this can be on a variety of engineering solutions ranging from backend to frontend, from leveraging LLMs to agentic AI. You own features, not just tasks. You work directly with the people whose problems you're solving.

Concretely, you'll:

  • Design and implement GenAI solutions across banking use cases: Voice AI, RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, document intelligence.
  • Co-create use cases with business counterparts: understand the problem, not just the technology.
  • Own the full development cycle: experiment fast, build properly, deploy, monitor, improve and scale.
  • Work with Agents, plain LLMs, code, Databricks and whatever the right tools is for the job.
  • Help raise the technical quality of the team: code reviews, knowledge sharing, coaching juniors as you grow.

Working environment

You'll be part of a 25+ person AI team inside ABN AMRO's Innovation department. We operate with a startup mindset within a bank that serves millions of customers and employs thousands of individuals: fast feedback loops, direct lines to business leadership, and real deployment at scale. Initiative is expected. Daily coaching for juniors. Location: Amsterdam, hybrid.

Requirements / Your profile

We don't hire on CV titles. We hire on what you've shipped. The team includes people who came through software engineering, data science, infra—what they share is proven AI expertise and a bias for building over theorising.

What you've done:

  • Built and deployed AI applications using LLMs, RAG, agents, fine-tuning, voice AI, or equivalent. Production counts, but a serious personal project or hackathon win is equally valid.
  • Written Python that runs in production: you're a developer, not a notebook user.
  • Worked with cloud infrastructure: Azure preferred, AWS or GCP also fine.
  • Shipped something people actually used and can talk concretely about what worked and what didn't.

How you work:

  • You move from idea to working product without needing a lot of steering.
  • You're as interested in the business problem as in the technical solution.
  • You explain your decisions clearly to people who don't share your context.
  • You follow the GenAI field closely because you're genuinely curious, not because you have to.
  • You've built something on the side (a tool, a project, a contribution) that shows you don't wait to be told what to learn.

We are offering

  • An attractive gross monthly salary based on a 36‑hour work week, including holiday allowance and a flexible benefit budget between €63,000 and €90,000 (40-hours is possible, pro‑rated). Depending on your knowledge and experience you'll be placed in Hay scale 9 or 10.
  • Excellent employment conditions and an excellent pension scheme.
  • Flexibility in working: working from home is possible in consultation with your team. Ergonomic home office setup provided.
  • Five weeks of vacation per year plus two mandatory days off; option to purchase up to four additional weeks annually.
  • Five “Banking for better days” for personal development or volunteer work.
  • Personal development budget of €1,000 per year (can accumulate up to €3,000).
  • Annual public transport pass with free public transportation throughout the Netherlands for business and private use.

Interested?

No motivation letter. Please answer these two questions instead:

  • Tell us about an AI product you built: what did you make, what was your role, and what did you learn when it hit production (or real users)?
  • What's the most interesting thing you've built or experimented with in AI in the last six months? Why does it matter to you?

Applications without answers to these specific questions will not be reviewed. For questions about the vacancy, contact the assigned recruiter ([email protected]).

Recruitment process

  • An online culture interview.
  • A technical case.
  • An offline technical interview.
