Details

Anthropic is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to join the Beneficial Deployments, Life Sciences team. The team works to deploy Claude with nonprofits, foundations, and mission-driven organizations in areas including global health and life sciences. The role focuses on helping Claude drive scientific hardware and software, deploying the Model Hardware Standard (MHS) to research laboratories, scaling field learnings through reusable assets, and contributing to internal product and research direction.

Responsibilities

  • Work with laboratories to automate experiments end-to-end with Claude, including advising, prototyping, and writing production code.
  • Drive product, engineering, and research direction based on field experience.
  • Build evaluations to measure model limitations in the physical world, including capabilities and safety.
  • Develop new features for the Model Hardware Standard.
  • Scale impact across laboratories through reusable cookbooks, documentation, and other assets.
  • Serve as an EMEA ambassador for Claude in laboratory settings, from small meetings to large conferences.
  • Travel significantly as part of the role.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience connecting software to laboratory robots and instruments, such as liquid handlers, plate readers, scheduling software, and LIMS, ideally in an automated laboratory.
  • Strong engineering skills, including taking an LLM-powered tool from prototype to production code.
  • Experience writing evaluations to measure AI system performance.
  • Scientific understanding of how experiments work, including the ability to identify worthwhile automation opportunities and recognize where AI may fail or be unsafe in the physical world.
  • Experience working directly with external customers or partners in a technical role.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including writing documentation and presenting to scientific audiences.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous situations, build from scratch, and perform multiple functions in a scrappy environment.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a field relevant to the role.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Optional equity donation matching.
  • Generous vacation and parental leave.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Office collaboration space.
