Airbnb is seeking a Data Scientist with strong causal inference expertise to join the Community Support Data Science team. The role involves collaborating with engineers, product managers, designers, operations agents, and analytics partners to enable personalized, fair, and exceptional experiences for guests and hosts.

Responsibilities

  • Design rigorous experiments and quasi-experiments to measure the causal impact of Community Support product launches and inform launch decisions.
  • Build causal machine learning models to optimize Make Goods budget allocation and maximize business impact.
  • Conduct causal inference analyses to quantify the long-term effects of product changes and uncover heterogeneous treatment effects.
  • Deliver strategic insights into quality-cost tradeoffs to help leadership improve the support experience.
  • Design and implement causal inference frameworks and statistical models to measure intervention impact, evaluate system performance, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Build, evaluate, and iterate on causal machine learning models for high-stakes decisions, applying best practices across the model lifecycle from feature engineering through production deployment.
  • Develop frameworks to analyze tradeoffs between accuracy, coverage, user experience, and operational cost, and propose strategies to improve overall effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, Operations, and Analytics teams.
  • Communicate findings clearly to leaders and stakeholders and drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Help scale and evolve data science capabilities within the domain.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of industry experience in a quantitative analysis role with a master's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, economics, or computer science, or a PhD in a relevant field.
  • Strong knowledge of causal inference and experimental design.
  • Strong knowledge of Bayesian modeling and statistical inference.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying statistical or machine learning models in production environments.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming with Python or R and database usage with SQL.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with audiences of varying technical levels.
  • Ability to translate complex findings into compelling narratives that drive impact.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and collaboration skills.

Location

This position is eligible for remote work in the United States. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Employees must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity, subject to Airbnb's list of excluded states.

Compensation

The base pay range is $151,000–$175,000 USD per year. Actual base pay depends on factors including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
