Details
Airbnb is seeking an experienced Localization Manager to own localization strategy for the Italian market. The role is based in Milan, Italy, or within easy commuting distance, and involves partnering with product, marketing, engineering, creative, legal, business operations, policy, communications, community, and supply teams to deliver authentic local experiences for users.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Country Manager and functional leads to devise business strategies aligned with Airbnb's goals in Italy.
- Share product-update roadmaps and intent to adapt global strategies to the Italian market, while feeding local business insights back to regional and global Localization leadership.
- Apply linguistic and cultural expertise to develop strategies that support international growth and deliver an authentic native user experience.
- Own and drive the localization of product naming and creative copy, representing local teams and helping build Airbnb's brand in international markets.
- Research the needs of Airbnb's international users in collaboration with the Consumer Insights and Research team.
- Identify localization-process challenges and lead language- and team-level quality improvement initiatives.
- Own the strategy for achieving localization quality excellence across all platforms.
- Hold translation and QA vendors accountable for quality standards, review vendor metrics and root-cause analyses, identify trends, and drive improvements.
- Coordinate language feedback from users and Airbnb employees.
- Develop and maintain linguistic and cultural standards and guidelines.
- Collaborate with Creative teams to produce creative content and supervise the local Copywriter.
- Work with Localization Program Managers and Linguistic QA Managers to ensure high-quality international product releases.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience in product localization, including ownership of localization strategy for international launches, language quality, and content localization.
- Fluency in English and native knowledge of Italian.
- Experience building market strategies informed by market research and data analysis.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to drive partnerships and initiatives.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive strategic-level initiatives.
- Strong understanding of UI/UX localization, including placeholders, tags, and smart counts.
- Knowledge of CAT tools, internationalization libraries, CLDR standards, and LLM-based machine translation.
- Extensive project or program management and partner or stakeholder management experience across cross-functional teams and time zones.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to manage diverse stakeholders across business functions and leadership levels.
- Self-motivated, outcome-oriented, and accountable, with a track record of taking ownership.
- Ability to work at both strategic and tactical levels and execute in ambiguous environments.
- Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
