Details

A Design Engineer role on the Design Engineering team, focused on building and evolving Aurora, NordSecurity's multi-brand, multi-platform design system. Aurora ships as multiple kits across different rendering stacks: ReactKit and AstroKit on the web, and AppKit for native implementations.

The role combines design and front-end engineering, with a focus on design systems, AI-native design workflows, component quality, interaction design, accessibility, and polished user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and evolve the Aurora component kits: ReactKit, AstroKit, and AppKit, going deep on the kit required by the roadmap while maintaining consistent component contracts.
  • Contribute to Aurora's visual and interaction language, including component anatomy, variants, states, interaction behavior, and motion in Figma and code.
  • Build internal design tooling, including Figma plugins, CLI utilities, CI checks, prototyping tools, and AI-native workflows.
  • Champion best practices and drive the adoption of design automation, Storybook, and testing strategies within the design engineering context.
  • Guide, train, and support product development teams in adopting and using the Aurora design system.
  • Provide technical input during the design process, prototype interactions, and translate design concepts into polished, interactive, and performant UI components.
  • Implement animations and micro-interactions for key user-facing elements.
  • Build and maintain accessible components in compliance with relevant standards such as WCAG AA.
  • Own the technical implementation and architecture of design system components, ensuring code quality, performance, and design fidelity.

Requirements

  • Proven experience building, maintaining, and scaling design systems.
  • Deep understanding of design system principles, component architecture, and token strategies.
  • Strong product design fundamentals, including visual hierarchy, typography, spacing, and interaction design.
  • Ability to make independent design decisions and contribute to design, not only implementation.
  • Strong command of JavaScript, modern CSS including Tailwind CSS, and semantic HTML.
  • Ability to become productive in an unfamiliar technology stack quickly.
  • Figma fluency, including variables, component architecture, and accurate design-to-code translation.
  • Experience with the Figma Plugin API or MCP is a strong advantage.
  • Advanced practical knowledge of Storybook.js for component development, documentation, and testing.
  • Strong collaboration skills across design, engineering, and product disciplines.
  • Experience with design tools such as Figma and accurately translating designs into code.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience shipping products with more than one technology, including web and a native platform. WPF experience is especially valuable.
  • Production experience with Astro or another islands/SSG framework.
  • Experience shipping Figma plugins or REST API integrations.
  • Creative development experience with GSAP, Three.js, or WebGL.
  • Experience working on a platform team where designers and engineers are the users.
  • Experience with Style Dictionary, especially version 4, or a comparable token pipeline; familiarity with the DTCG format.

Benefits

  • Online and in-person training, access to Coursera and Skillshare, mentorship, and internal career opportunities.
  • Extra vacation days that increase with tenure, plus additional sick leave, special-occasion, and parenting days.
  • Premium private health insurance in Lithuania and Poland.
  • Free Calm, Headspace, and Mindletic subscriptions, resilience and mindfulness training, and mental health events.
  • In-house gyms, Multisport and Urban Sport cards, online workouts, mobility sessions, fitness guidance, and consultations.
  • Company workation opportunities.
  • The ability to work from different locations.
  • Gifts for birthdays, work anniversaries, weddings, and new family members.
  • Summer camps for children and flexible working arrangements for parents.
  • Team-building activities and company events.
  • Access to the Vilnius headquarters, including silent rooms, gyms, a game room, music room, and coffee bar.
