Details

The Control Plane Platform team is building the shared foundation that every product in ClickHouse Cloud is built and shipped on. The team provides ClickHouse engineering teams with one place to own and deploy their products, removes the overhead of rebuilding common plumbing, and keeps the customer experience consistent as the number of integrating teams grows. The team owns API gateways and API standards, shared platform services, deployment and infrastructure patterns, testing and CI, local developer experience, and Control Plane observability.

This role leads the Platform team and combines people leadership, technical direction, product thinking, and operational ownership. The role works closely with Product, Infrastructure, Security, Support, and engineering teams across ClickHouse, helping shape how new products and teams integrate and deploy applications in ClickHouse Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team through hiring, clear expectations, direct feedback, career development, and performance management while fostering an inclusive, empathetic, and psychologically safe environment.
  • Own outcomes across API gateways and API standards, shared platform services, event buses, notifications, feature flags, websockets, audit records, deployment and infrastructure patterns, CI and testing, local developer experience, disaster recovery, and Control Plane observability.
  • Treat integrating teams as customers and measure success by their delivery velocity and platform adoption.
  • Guide architecture and help senior engineers make sound tradeoffs.
  • Lead cross-cutting migrations, deprecations, and contract changes across teams.
  • Contribute to designs and code for complex areas including gateway routing, authentication and RBAC enforcement, spec-driven code generation, event delivery semantics and idempotency, and multi-region rollout safety.
  • Own SLOs, reliability, on-call quality, and cost efficiency for Kubernetes-hosted, multi-tenant services across cloud regions.
  • Systematize support, reduce toil, and build self-service and auto-healing capabilities, including golden-path templates, generators, and documentation.
  • Shape the platform vision, create the roadmap, sequence initiatives for business impact, and write RFCs to build cross-organizational consensus.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years managing software engineers, with a track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong talent.
  • Experience leading a platform or infrastructure team whose customers are other engineering teams, including driving adoption and cross-organizational migrations through influence and tooling.
  • Experience leading distributed global teams and fostering an inclusive, autonomous culture across time zones.
  • Experience building scalable, highly available, and secure cloud infrastructure in AWS, including EKS, SQS, DocumentDB, Redis, PostgreSQL, and Lambda.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform and Helm, and progressive delivery using Argo Rollouts or similar tools.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes, including hosting independently deployed applications in a shared cluster.
  • Familiarity with API platform work, including OpenAPI-driven contracts, API gateways, authentication, RBAC, rate limiting, versioning, and deprecation.
  • Track record of decomposing monoliths into independently deployable services without stalling product delivery.
  • Technical credibility to engage deeply in architecture and incidents without owning daily implementation.
  • Continued hands-on interest in code and design reviews for complex or critical areas.
  • Strong execution judgment across ambiguity, parallel workstreams, risk, and long-term system health.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with large TypeScript/Node monorepos and related CI scale, build and test time, local development, and code-generation challenges.
  • Experience designing load balancing, auto-scaling, disaster recovery, and failover strategies for cloud environments.
  • Experience building CI/CD at scale.
  • Experience with internal developer platforms, service catalogs, golden-path templates, and self-service application scaffolding.
  • Proficiency with React.
  • Experience making APIs consumable by AI agents through MCP servers, CLIs, or skills generated from API specifications.
  • Experience with ClickHouse.
  • Previous experience developing analytics or data-intensive applications.

Benefits

  • Flexible, remote-friendly work environment at a globally distributed company operating in more than 25 countries.
  • Employer healthcare contributions.
  • Stock options for every new team member.
  • Flexible time off in the United States and generous time-off entitlement in other countries.
  • USD 500 home-office setup allowance for remote employees.
  • Opportunities to connect with colleagues through company-wide global gatherings.
  • Equal employment opportunities and a commitment to a workplace free from discrimination and harassment.
