Engineering Manager - LPM Foundations

Details

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. The Local Payment Methods (LPM) Foundations team builds and operates the core platform that enables Stripe's LPM teams and first- and third-party developers to build, integrate, and run high-quality payment methods at scale.

This role focuses on payments platforms, AI-enabled engineering workflows, reusable self-service capabilities, and reliable payment experiences globally.

Responsibilities

• Set the vision and roadmap for platform capabilities that help LPM teams build, integrate, and operate payment methods at scale.
• Lead engineers in designing and delivering reliable, self-service foundations that simplify complex integrations and speed up launches.
• Build an AI-first engineering organization by developing platform hooks and working practices that enable agentic development and help teams use AI to improve execution and product-engineering decisions.
• Partner with customers, engineering, product, partnerships, legal, operations, and other stakeholders to align priorities and deliver end-to-end outcomes.
• Drive technical and architectural decisions with staff engineers, balancing reliability, extensibility, velocity, and regional payments complexity.
• Lead and improve team operating processes.
• Recruit, develop, and retain engineers while building a challenging, supportive, and inclusive team culture.
• Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Stripe's engineering management team.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience managing teams that shipped high-quality products.
• An entrepreneurial mindset and comfort operating with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility in an ambiguous environment.
• A track record of recruiting, developing, and building engineering teams.
• The ability to work effectively across functions, think rigorously, communicate clearly, and make or coordinate difficult decisions and trade-offs.
• Technical acumen to partner with staff engineers on architecture and technical strategy.
• Experience creating a healthy and inclusive work environment that is both challenging and supportive.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building platforms, developer products, or large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience applying AI to software development, engineering workflows, or product delivery, with strong judgment about where it creates durable value.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for leadership, users, and company-wide audiences.
• A strong quantitative and analytical background.
• Experience leading fully remote or distributed teams.
