Details

Coinbase is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer Intern to join the HR Technology team within People Success for a 12-week summer 2027 internship. The team builds internal applications, integrations, and AI-powered workflows that help employees work more efficiently. The intern will own a scoped project from discovery through production, make technical decisions across the stack, and ship software that automates manual HR processes and improves the employee experience.

Responsibilities

Own a project end-to-end, from defining the problem and scope with HR stakeholders through designing, building, testing, and delivering production-ready software during the internship.
Build custom applications, integrations, and AI-powered workflows that automate manual HR processes and improve the employee experience.
Take solutions from prototype to production with appropriate quality checks and human oversight.
Make technical decisions across data modeling, API integrations, application logic, and user interfaces while balancing speed, maintainability, and security.
Partner directly with internal customers to understand their needs, map user journeys, and prioritize the roadmap based on expected impact.
Define success metrics, gather user feedback, and use evidence such as time saved, error reduction, and adoption rates to guide iterations and communicate outcomes.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or possessing equivalent hands-on engineering experience.
Demonstrated ability to build, test, debug, and ship software, including applications, API integrations, or automation tools, through academic projects, hackathons, or prior internships.
Ability to explain the technical choices behind completed work.
Hands-on experience building AI-powered prototypes or workflows using tools such as large language models.
Ability to validate generated outputs, protect sensitive information, and recognize when human review is needed.
Ability to take a scoped project through delivery by breaking ambiguous needs into achievable milestones, communicating trade-offs to technical and nontechnical partners, and delivering against a deadline.
Responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

This is a 12-week internship during summer 2027.
Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company, with quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”
