About proficiency levels:
- 1-2 — basic awareness. Minimal hands-on experience, and a rudimentary understanding of the technology's purpose;
- 3-6 — daily use. Comfortable and regular usage, capable of handling common tasks and challenges related to the technology;
- 7-9 — you are an expert, you can teach others, you know all the pitfalls and tricks;
- 10 — exceptional knowledge, comprehensive understanding, and adeptness in all aspects of the technology, including advanced problem-solving. Think twice before claiming or demanding such level.

Details
Education Labs builds AI-powered experiences that help people develop genuine skills and become more capable. This hands-on role combines full-stack engineering, product building, interaction design, and research. You will be the second technical builder on a small team, exploring new interaction patterns, translating research insights into production features, and helping define what effective AI-assisted skill development looks like.
You will operate as a one-person technical shop, prototyping ideas, establishing technical direction, and shipping production-quality features to millions of users. The role requires strong product instincts, clean interface design sensibilities, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to measure success through capability growth rather than engagement metrics. This is an individual contributor role and does not initially involve people management.
Responsibilities
- Ship features that help users develop real skills with AI, measuring capability growth rather than time-on-site.
- Architect end-to-end front-end and back-end prototypes to test new interaction paradigms.
- Focus on front-end interaction quality, including motion, polish, and visual detail.
- Define technical direction and establish patterns for others to follow.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Research, and Engineering teams to influence product strategy.
- Shape team strategy and the roadmap by identifying high-leverage opportunities.
- Translate research on skill development and human-AI collaboration into shipped products.
- Rapidly prototype, test with users, and iterate toward production.
- Document and share work through writing, prototypes, and presentations.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of experience building and shipping web products.
- Deep full-stack engineering expertise.
- Strong front-end skills with TypeScript or JavaScript, React, and CSS.
- Expertise in interaction design, motion, and visual detail.
- Back-end and data pipeline experience, including Python, API design, and analytics infrastructure.
- A portfolio demonstrating innovative interaction designs and high-quality implementations.
- A record of independently driving features from prototype to production.
- Strong interest in human capability, skill development, HCI, developer tools, or products that help people become more capable.
- Comfort with ambiguity and undefined problem spaces.
- Strong product design and user experience instincts.
- Experience setting vision, shaping strategy, prioritizing work, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to build productive relationships with Product, Design, Research, and Engineering teams.
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The field of study should be relevant to the role through coursework, training, or professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with developer tools, creative tools, learning platforms, or products where mastery matters more than engagement.
- Background in learning sciences, cognitive science, HCI, skill acquisition research, or educational psychology.
- Experience with experimentation frameworks, A/B testing, or analytics measuring capability development.
- Experience in research labs, frontier technology companies, or autonomous startups.
- Published writing, talks, or open-source work on skill development, human-AI interaction, or product philosophy.
- Experience building AI-native products or working with large language models in production.
Benefits
Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and an office environment for collaboration. Staff are expected to work from one of the company's offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time.
