Details

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. The Link team builds a consumer network for next-generation commerce, including Identity, Consumer Finance, AI-driven transactions, merchant payments, and a digital wallet.

The Consumer Preference team is building the Link experience across the web app and agents, including financial insights, rewards cards backed by a stablecoin balance, agentic purchase UX, automatic purchase protections, and subscription management.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive technical strategy across Link Consumer, connecting near-term product delivery to a cohesive, durable engineering vision.
  • Lead large, ambiguous 0→1 initiatives from problem definition and architecture through implementation, safe launch, and iteration.
  • Design, build, and maintain polished user experiences, reliable backend services, APIs, and systems.
  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, and foundational investments early, creating incremental plans that de-risk the roadmap and accelerate future work.
  • Partner with engineering teams across Stripe, building alignment and influencing their roadmaps and priorities when Link Consumer depends on shared capabilities.
  • Champion pragmatic solutions and code patterns throughout the codebase, setting standards in React, JavaScript, CSS, GraphQL, Ruby APIs, and LLM-powered systems.
  • Ensure UI and backend components are reliable, secure, extensible, and accessible.
  • Define operational processes and lead responses to production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack, growing the learning and retrospective culture and driving remediations that reduce risk.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • 8+ years of backend and/or full-stack software development experience, with a track record of owning large, ambiguous systems end-to-end.
  • Demonstrated technical experience leading the design and delivery of large, complex software projects from early definition through production launch.
  • Strong full-stack engineering skills, including experience building reliable backend services and polished user-facing product experiences.
  • Experience leading and unblocking a group of engineers on a substantial project as a senior individual contributor.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-ambiguity environments by framing problems, making durable technical decisions, and creating an actionable path forward.
  • Excellent cross-functional and cross-organizational collaboration skills, with the ability to align teams with different systems, priorities, and constraints.
  • Strong engineering judgment around system reliability, operational excellence, security, and maintainability.
  • A product-minded approach to engineering, with a focus on delivering meaningful outcomes for users and the business.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Java, Ruby, and/or TypeScript. Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn are valued more than expertise in a particular language or framework.
  • Experience building payments, money-movement, fintech, or other regulated financial products.
  • Experience building consumer products at scale, particularly products requiring a high degree of user trust.
  • Experience working on 0→1 products or taking new capabilities from concept through launch and iteration.
  • Familiarity with LLM-powered products, evaluations, or agentic assistants.
  • Appreciation for the importance of strong distribution and taking pride in seeing projects through to successful completion.
