Details
Perplexity's Growth team owns the product loops that help users discover, adopt, and build lasting habits around its AI experiences. As an Android Growth Engineer, you will work across the full mobile funnel for Perplexity, Comet, and Computer on Android, including installation, activation, onboarding, push and lifecycle messaging, conversion, retention, and in-app purchases. You will own end-to-end projects, run experiments, and build product surfaces that support consumer and enterprise workflows while accounting for mobile release cycles, store review, and version fragmentation.
Why Perplexity Is Different
- Craftsmanship: Build high-quality, tasteful products for both AI-native and AI-curious users.
- Ownership: Identify problems, design solutions, and ship them.
- Entrepreneurship: Think like founders, act with urgency, and deliver for users and colleagues.
- Scholarship: Work with talented peers while pursuing knowledge and truth.
- Partnership: Amplify colleagues' strengths, break down silos, and help teams deliver excellence.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own Android growth surfaces across installation, activation, onboarding, lifecycle, conversion, retention, and paid upgrades.
- Lead experiments end to end, from hypothesis and instrumentation through implementation, analysis, and rollout.
- Build flag-driven and server-driven patterns that enable experimentation without waiting for a store release.
- Own in-app purchase and paywall surfaces, including billing integrations, subscription and credit purchase flows, entitlement correctness, and pricing and packaging experiments.
- Build push and lifecycle notification experiences, including permission prompts, targeting, timing, deep links, and retention instrumentation.
- Partner with web and design engineers to create consistent, native-feeling onboarding, upsells, and in-task nudges across web, iOS, and Android.
- Partner with the Growth team to optimize app store performance and attribution.
- Optimize install-to-activation, D1/D7/D30 retention, notification opt-in and engagement, paid conversion, and habit formation using clean data and trustworthy experiment readouts.
- Work closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Monetization, Marketing, and the core Mobile team to translate behavioral signals into durable product surfaces.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional mobile engineering experience shipping consumer apps at meaningful scale on Android.
- Strong native Android skills with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, plus willingness to work across other parts of the stack when needed.
- Experience owning a full release cycle, including build and release tooling, phased rollouts, store review, crash and regression monitoring, and safe rollbacks.
- Strong execution and ability to ship multiple experiments and product improvements in parallel while driving them to clear outcomes.
- Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation platforms such as Eppo, Statsig, Optimizely, or in-house equivalents, particularly within a versioned app.
- Ability to pull, segment, and interpret funnel data for data-informed decision-making.
- Strong product judgment and ability to translate user behavior and growth opportunities into simple, effective technical solutions.
- Self-motivated with strong ownership instincts and ability to propose experiments and drive improvements independently.
- Genuine interest in and adoption of AI products, with willingness to learn quickly.
Nice to Have
- Experience on a growth or experimentation-heavy team.
- Deep experience with in-app payments.
- Experience with mobile attribution and measurement stacks such as AppsFlyer, Adjust, or Branch, as well as paid mobile acquisition.
- ASO experience, including store listing experiments and localized metadata.
- Comfort working across backend or web stacks to unblock end-to-end delivery.
- Experience at a fast-growing startup or on a high-ownership engineering team.
