Details
We are looking for a Product Manager to join the Discovery Apps team in the Search domain. This role will help Booking build earlier-stage travel discovery experiences for customers who begin with broad intent, such as a theme, vibe, or set of constraints, rather than a fixed destination.
The role will focus on adapting existing web discovery patterns to mobile apps while creating faster, more contextual, and continuous discovery journeys. Key areas include saving, in-trip discovery, and progression from inspiration into trip planning.
The Product Manager will work closely with the Senior Product Manager leading Web Discovery and collaborate with design, engineering, analytics, research, and adjacent platform teams.
Responsibilities
Product Ownership
- Own mobile app discovery experiences for broad and thematic travel intent.
- Develop app-native destination exploration, including map-first experiences and destination comparison.
- Create useful trip context and discovery content that helps customers narrow down options with confidence.
- Develop save, shortlist, and handoff experiences connecting discovery to later planning and booking flows.
- Define which broad-intent traveller problems and archetypes to prioritize on apps.
Product Strategy
- Own and set the product or feature vision using data, user research, and the overarching product-area vision.
- Develop a one-year strategy and align key stakeholders and the team around it.
- Define team-level objectives.
- Typically own or collaborate with a Product Marketing Manager on a go-to-market plan.
Product Delivery
- Prioritize the short- and mid-term roadmap based on strategy and objectives.
- Identify risks and dependencies early and plan mitigations.
- Establish tactical delivery methods with the team, such as Scrum, Kanban, hours, or points, and execute delivery plans.
Data Fluency and Experimentation
- Identify and explain primary, supporting, and counter metrics.
- Define solid experimentation hypotheses.
- Understand experimentation statistics, including test power and sample-size determination.
- Analyze data, present findings to stakeholders, and make product decisions based on results.
- Define and validate success for early-stage discovery experiences using behavioural signals, qualitative feedback, and downstream indicators while tracking business metrics and guardrails.
- Define effective KPI presentations with analysts.
Customer Insight
- Use interviews, surveys, story mapping, use-case design, and other research methods to understand customer behaviour and needs.
- Distil customer feedback from surveys, field research, analytics, operations feedback, and other sources into actionable hypotheses.
- Identify unmet needs, validate or invalidate concepts, and improve existing products.
- Apply user-experience design practices in partnership with designers.
- Understand how travellers make destination decisions when they do not yet know exactly where or when they want to go.
Stakeholder Management
- Identify teams and stakeholders affected by projects.
- Gather stakeholder requirements and integrate feedback.
- Represent the team's work in a convincing and engaging way.
- Manage expectations through timely, concise, and clear progress updates tailored to stakeholder needs.
- Manage expectations up to Group Product Manager level and occasionally Director level.
Technical Fluency
- Partner with the Engineering Manager.
- Understand the technical solutions used to deliver the product.
- Advocate for customers and the business in engineering trade-off decisions.
- Learn and understand the technical aspects of the work.
- Explain and justify critical technical solutions and understand associated risks.
- Build bridges between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of product experience in customer-facing products.
- Proven experience building UX-heavy mobile products.
- Proven experience working on ambiguous, early-stage, 0-to-1 products.
- Strong experimentation and data fluency, including defining success metrics and evaluating product bets.
- Preferred: experience integrating LLM features into products.
- Preferred: experience integrating with maps or AI chat.
Contract Details
- Independent contractor engagement.
- 40 hours per week.
- Six-month timeline from July 28, 2026, to January 27, 2027.
