Details
Airbnb is seeking a technical, hands-on, and mission-driven Senior Manager of Technical Program Management (TPM) for the Infrastructure TPM team. You will lead a team of TPMs driving multi-organizational programs across Data Infrastructure, Reliability Engineering, and Developer Experience.
Data Infrastructure builds batch, streaming, and real-time data and feature platforms, semantic metrics layers, and query engines that support analytics, experimentation, and machine learning. Reliability Engineering provides observability, alerting, incident response, and deployment-safety platforms, including progressive delivery and automated rollback. Developer Experience supports source control, CI, build, code review, deployment, and cloud development environments.
The role involves close collaboration with data, infrastructure, and product teams, as well as senior individual contributors and engineering directors, to develop robust, highly available, and transparent platform solutions.
Responsibilities
- Shape and influence the technical direction of projects while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Drive phased rollouts and large-scale platform migrations from pilot through adoption and deprecation.
- Define measurable success criteria, including availability and SLOs, CI and merge latency, cost per workload, and adoption.
- Assess risks and opportunities and develop proactive mitigation strategies.
- Maintain transparent communication with stakeholders.
- Present outcomes, updates, trade-offs, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.
- Hire, develop, and coach a team of senior TPMs.
- Establish operating standards for planning, execution, and portfolio reporting across Infrastructure.
- Lead programs preparing infrastructure for AI-driven scale, including CI, source control, merge systems, agentic developer workflows, and AI-ready data platforms.
- Partner with engineering and finance on infrastructure efficiency programs, including utilization, cost attribution, and workload-normalized cost reduction.
- Drive cross-organizational reliability programs, including incident review follow-through, SLO adoption, and deployment-safety rollouts.
- Own Infrastructure planning rhythms, including OKRs, roadmap reviews, and dependency mapping across Data, Reliability, and Developer Experience.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in technical program management, software engineering, or SRE.
- 5+ years leading and mentoring TPMs or managers of TPMs.
- Strong ability to work through ambiguity, frame complex problems, identify solutions, learn new technologies, and drive initiatives to completion.
- Strong technical grounding in at least two of the following areas:
- Distributed data systems, such as Spark, Trino, Flink/Kafka, and Iceberg
- Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure
- Observability platforms
- CI/CD, build systems, and monorepos
- Experience leading multi-quarter, multi-team platform migrations or deprecations at scale.
- Experience delivering infrastructure for AI workloads or AI-assisted engineering, such as feature platforms, LLM gateways, agentic developer tooling, or CI/CD systems for AI-generated code.
- Deep familiarity with progressive delivery, canary deployments, automated rollback practices, SLOs, error budgets, and incident management.
- Strong business judgment, analytical skills, ownership, and ability to influence results through data-driven analysis.
- Excellent written and oral communication and people skills.
- Ability to adapt to teams with different operating cadences and create a culture of inclusiveness and sustainability.
