Details
The User Safety & Risk Operations team protects products and users from abuse, fraud, safety risks, and other forms of misuse. The team translates real-world user and operational signals into timely decisions, practical interventions, and improvements to products and systems.
This role focuses on new, ambiguous, or underdeveloped operational risks and helps mature them into scalable capabilities. The role partners across User Safety & Risk Operations, Product, Engineering, Data Science, Product Policy, Legal, Safety, Support, and external vendors or partnership stakeholders.
The position is based in San Francisco, California, with a hybrid work model requiring three days per week in the office. The role may involve exposure to sensitive or concerning content; strong discretion, judgment, and resilience are essential.
Responsibilities
- Own ambiguous, high-priority safety and risk problems by defining the problem, gathering evidence, selecting a practical approach, driving execution, and closing the loop.
- Analyze structured and unstructured quantitative and qualitative data, including user reports, case narratives, conversations, escalations, and operational metrics.
- Identify patterns, risks, and high-leverage interventions.
- Build and test lightweight workflows, tools, automations, and decision aids to improve speed, quality, and consistency.
- Turn one-off insights and manual work into scalable operating mechanisms without unnecessary process or complexity.
- Lead sensitive investigations, incident response, or launch-readiness work, including safety workflows, human review, escalation paths, partner coordination, and operational monitoring for product launches or cloud deployments.
- Work with cross-functional and external partners to clarify ownership, resolve operational gaps, and turn incomplete signals into clear recommendations and decisions.
- Measure improvements in quality, speed, coverage, operator effort, and risk reduction, and adjust when outcomes do not improve.
- Coach junior operators through calibration, guidance, and reusable tools.
- Depending on team needs, focus on emerging-risk incubation, cloud deployment operations and partnerships, device safety, new product launches, or other operational areas.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in trust and safety operations, investigations, incident response, product operations, technical program management, or another high-judgment, data-heavy operational field.
- Track record as a scrappy generalist who can enter unfamiliar problem areas, learn quickly, and deliver with limited structure or support.
- Strong data skills, including the ability to interpret messy qualitative or unstructured information and combine it with quantitative evidence.
- Technical fluency and hands-on experience with AI tools, dashboards, and data tooling.
- Ability to build or prototype practical solutions without waiting for a dedicated technical team.
- Ability to operate independently, make clear tradeoffs, and maintain momentum as priorities and requirements change.
- Systems thinking, including the ability to build approaches that can be repeated, measured, and operated by others.
- Strong judgment in sensitive situations involving user impact, policy, legal risk, technical constraints, and business priorities.
- Clear and direct communication skills, especially in writing, with the ability to drive decisions across teams without formal authority.
Nice to Have
- Experience in trust and safety, fraud, product safety, integrity, or another adversarial or high-severity risk domain.
- Experience moving a new or immature workflow from early investigation into stable, scaled operations.
- Experience supporting cloud platforms or deployment partnerships, enterprise products, product launches, connected devices, or other technically complex programs.
- Familiarity with SQL, lightweight scripting, no-code tools, workflow automation, or AI-assisted development.
- Experience with vendor operations, quality programs, calibrations, or distributed operational teams.
Benefits
- Base salary of $252,000–$280,000 per year.
- Equity and performance-related bonuses for eligible employees.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
- Pre-tax accounts for health, dependent care, and commuter expenses.
