Details

GitLab is an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps that helps organizations increase developer productivity, improve operational efficiency, reduce security and compliance risk, and accelerate digital transformation. The company embraces AI as a core productivity multiplier, with team members expected to incorporate AI into their daily workflows.

Role Overview

As a Professional Services Engineer, you will partner with public sector customers to help them successfully adopt and expand GitLab across their organizations. You will deliver installation, migration, training, and advisory engagements, supporting environments ranging from single-node Omnibus installations to larger reference architectures using infrastructure as code and configuration as code.

The role combines hands-on technical delivery, clear communication, and project ownership. You will work with project managers and engagement managers to improve delivery consistency, provide feedback to GitLab's product and engineering teams, and help customers make practical choices suited to their goals, timelines, and environments. The position involves solving complex problems across multiple engagements in a remote, largely asynchronous environment.

Example projects include:

  • Delivering GitLab installations and upgrades using Terraform or Ansible, from simple deployments to highly available architectures.
  • Leading migrations from existing systems to GitLab SaaS or self-managed GitLab, including planning, execution, and knowledge transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Professional Services engagements, including installation, migration, training, and advisory services, completing projects on scope and on schedule.
  • Plan and execute GitLab deployments across architectures ranging from single-node Omnibus installations to large reference architectures using infrastructure as code and configuration as code practices.
  • Oversee and perform migrations from multiple source systems to GitLab SaaS or self-managed GitLab, minimizing disruption during cutovers.
  • Provide technical guidance across the GitLab feature stack and help customers adopt best practices suited to their goals, constraints, and operating environments.
  • Partner with project managers and engagement managers to improve delivery consistency, maintain schedules, and reduce delivery issues.
  • Manage and deliver multiple customer projects simultaneously while balancing customer outcomes, billable time, delivery priorities, utilization, and delivery goals.
  • Mentor and assist other Professional Services Engineers by sharing technical expertise and contributing to repeatable delivery patterns.
  • Collaborate with GitLab's product and engineering teams to remove customer blockers and improve GitLab features and delivery processes based on field insights.

Requirements

  • Professional experience with one or more infrastructure as code or configuration as code tools, including Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Active Secret or TS/SCI clearance is required because of the nature of the customers supported.
  • Ability to support public sector customers with TS/SCI clearance-related requirements for their environments and engagements.
  • Ability to lead technical delivery end to end, including discovery, planning, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
  • Occasional travel to SCIF sites as needed.
  • Desirable locations include the DC Metro area, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Colorado, and Utah.
