About Sentry

Software runs the world and the pace is faster than ever. Sentry helps developers fix errors and performance issues before users notice, so teams can spend less time firefighting and more time building.

Trusted by more than 200,000 organizations, Sentry is an application monitoring standard, and the team is building its AI-native future.

About the Role

Agents are becoming the default way developers ship LLM-powered software, and they are difficult to debug. A single run can include model calls, tool calls, retries, handoffs between agents, and multi-turn conversations that only make sense as a whole.

Sentry's Agent Tracing makes these runs inspectable, including agent runs, tool calls, model interactions, token usage, costs, and conversations that can be replayed message by message.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Telemetry Experience team, you will own the Agent Tracing product surface. The stack includes Python/Django and PostgreSQL on the backend, React and TypeScript on the frontend, and Sentry's trace storage underneath. You will work with SDK engineers who instrument agent frameworks upstream and own the customer-facing dashboards, conversation views, APIs, and workflows that help developers diagnose agent runs.

Responsibilities

  • Own projects end to end, from customer complaints and scoping through design, implementation across the stack, rollout, and measurement.
  • Write design documents, break work into shippable pieces, and follow projects through launch.
  • Build interfaces for debugging multi-agent workflows, conversation replay, cost and token breakdowns, and failed runs.
  • Make large volumes of messy trace data fast and queryable, including filtering and sorting millions of conversations.
  • Design APIs for both human users and other people's agents.
  • Identify and surface common agent failure classes as issues.
  • Make setup straightforward across different technology stacks, whether configured manually or through a coding agent.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, SDK engineers, and product engineers.
  • Consider product details such as empty states, error messages, loading behavior, and edge cases.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of professional experience building and shipping full-stack web applications.
  • Strong experience with React and TypeScript.
  • Experience with Python and Django or a similar framework, backed by a relational database such as PostgreSQL. Depth in one side of the stack and real competence in the other is acceptable.
  • A track record of driving non-trivial projects end to end and gaining agreement across teams.
  • Experience designing and building data-heavy interfaces with large and messy datasets.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Experience using AI-powered development tools to improve productivity and code quality.
  • Residence in the Vienna area or willingness to relocate.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building real products with LLMs or agent frameworks and familiarity with their failure modes.
  • Familiarity with application monitoring, observability, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience querying large-scale analytical data stores such as ClickHouse.
  • Experience building developer-facing products, SDKs, or public APIs.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range is EUR 81,000–220,000 gross per year, with equity and up to a 20% bonus. The legally required minimum wage for this position is EUR 60,844 gross per year under the applicable IT collective agreement, and Sentry's offer will be above that minimum based on experience, transferable skills, business needs, impact, location, and market demands.

Benefits may include incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage.
