About the Role
Sentry is looking for a Manager, Design Engineering to lead the team behind Scraps, its design system. This role manages designers and front-end engineers building the infrastructure that powers UI development.
The role sits at the intersection of design, engineering, and AI tooling. The successful candidate will be comfortable reviewing component APIs in pull requests, critiquing typography consistency across components, and creating skills that help agents use a design system more effectively. This person will set the direction for the design system, grow the team, and remain close enough to the work to make design and implementation decisions.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a team of engineers and designers, including hiring, leveling, and coaching across both disciplines.
- Own the team's strategic roadmap, including component priorities, tooling decisions, and web application refactoring.
- Help maintain Sentry's UI quality and visual expression.
- Keep design and code synchronized across tokens, variables, component parity, and the pipeline from Figma to production.
- Stay hands-on by building components and infrastructure that enable fast, accurate agentic front-end development and prototyping.
- Drive adoption across product teams through documentation, lint rules, and contribution workflows.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in a full-time design systems or design engineering team.
- 2+ years of people management experience.
- Strong visual and interaction design skills, including expertise in spacing, hierarchy, and micro-interactions.
- Deep fluency in React, TypeScript, CSS, and the DOM.
- Familiarity with Figma design systems tooling, including components, variants, variables, auto layout, shared libraries, and branching workflows.
- Ability to balance long-term system thinking with the practical needs of product teams working on tight timelines.
- Interest in design systems as the context layer for agentic frontend development.
- Strong understanding of component APIs, variant structures, tokenization, and naming conventions.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range is $200,000–$270,000 per year. Actual compensation depends on factors including work location, education, experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. The role is eligible for employee benefit plans, including incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage. The compensation summary also notes a bonus of up to 15%.
