Details

The Cloud Stability team maintains the stability and reliability of Bloomberg Cloud Compute (BCC), a private cloud infrastructure platform supporting hundreds of applications and tens of thousands of virtual machines. The team focuses on automation, capacity management, software deployments, virtualization platform maintenance, and performance monitoring across hypervisors, availability zones, and clusters.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the OpenStack API and interface with other Compute-Storage teams.
  • Be responsible for CI/CD of the Bloomberg Cloud Compute platform.
  • Contribute to adding intelligence for predicting performance issues caused by noisy neighbors.
  • Participate in predictive capacity planning and management of the cloud compute platform.
  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and task refinement.
  • Support and improve the cloud platform used by more than half of Bloomberg's engineering teams.
  • Contribute to upstream open-source projects such as OpenStack.
  • Participate in company-wide reliability engineering efforts, technology conferences, and relevant training.

Technologies

The team primarily uses Python, Ansible, Airflow, and Flask. The Bloomberg Cloud Compute platform is built on open-source technologies including OpenStack and Ceph. The role also involves Unix, distributed systems, CI/CD, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of software development experience using Python or another object-oriented language.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and cloud technology.
  • A BA, BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technology field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience on an SRE team or cloud platform team.
  • More than 5 years of programming experience.
  • Experience with Unix and distributed systems.
  • Experience with Agile Scrum.
  • Interest in using, developing, and leading open-source software projects.
