Details
Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Mobile QA to join the App Infra team within the Consumer & Business group. The team is leading a greenfield native rewrite of Coinbase's retail mobile app in Swift and Kotlin, replacing the existing React Native codebase to deliver a faster experience for millions of customers. This role owns the test infrastructure and processes that ensure every native release meets a high quality bar, including automated regression frameworks integrated into the AI-assisted code generation loop.
Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called “surges.”
Responsibilities
- Design and implement automated regression test suites for native iOS and Android builds.
- Establish the project-level quality bar through code reviews, test standards, and trade-off analysis.
- Build test infrastructure integrated into the AI code generation cycle, enforcing automated test and performance verification at commit time.
- Automate manual processes that currently slow the team down.
- Partner with mobile engineers to close coverage gaps, eliminate flaky tests, and improve debugging workflows.
- Architect the QA strategy for the greenfield rollout, including solutions for catching regressions while supporting urgent product changes.
- Establish quality dashboards and service-level objectives (SLOs) covering app stability, dropped frames, stall counts, and cold start times.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience focused on mobile test automation.
- Hands-on experience with XCTest, Espresso, or equivalent native testing frameworks for iOS and Android.
- Experience building automated regression infrastructure integrated into CI/CD pipelines such as Buildkite, CircleCI, or similar tools.
- Demonstrated impact on release quality and cycle time.
- Proficiency in Swift and Kotlin sufficient to read, debug, and write test code for native mobile codebases.
- Ability to architect robust technical solutions through trade-off analysis.
- Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
Compensation
Annual base salary range, excluding equity and bonus: $186,065–$218,900 USD. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
