Senior Staff Software Engineer, Stripe Dashboard

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. The Merchant Experience team builds the UI operating system and core experiences that power Stripe's products, including the Stripe Dashboard, frameworks, and tooling used by Stripe engineers.

As a Senior Staff Engineer on the Merchant Experience team, you will provide technical leadership across more than 50 engineers, shape the next generation of Stripe merchant experiences, improve the quality and performance of core product surfaces, and help define AI-powered merchant experiences.

Responsibilities

• Define technical strategy for merchant-facing experiences across Stripe, focusing on quality, performance, and integrating AI into core user workflows.
• Lead the design and delivery of complex, cross-team projects that improve the reliability, responsiveness, and polish of Stripe merchant surfaces.
• Establish standards, tooling, and processes that support high-quality, performant user interface development.
• Drive performance improvements for the Stripe Dashboard and merchant tools, including instrumentation, performance budgets, and architectural improvements.
• Explore and prototype how AI can transform how merchants discover, configure, and operate Stripe products.
• Build platforms and abstractions, including frameworks, components, and developer tools, that improve engineer productivity.
• Partner with Product, Design, AI and ML, and infrastructure teams to translate product vision into a technical roadmap.
• Mentor and grow engineers across the organization while fostering a culture of craftsmanship and high standards.

Requirements

• Senior Staff-level scope, including oversight of the work of 4–6 teams and ownership of an entire product portfolio. Most candidates will have 10–15 years of industry experience.
• Experience building and shipping complex, user-facing web applications for large-scale audiences or applications contributed to by hundreds of engineers.
• A track record of leading large-scale, cross-functional engineering projects with broad organizational impact.
• Deep expertise in modern frontend and full-stack development, with strong opinions about user experience and the technical ability to implement it.
• Demonstrated ability to improve software quality and performance measurably, including load times, reliability, test coverage, or error rates.
• Experience influencing technical direction and building alignment across multiple teams without formal authority.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate technical vision to engineers, product leaders, and executives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or maintaining design systems, component libraries, or frontend platform infrastructure at scale, ideally with React.
• Interest in the intersection of AI and user experience, including how emerging technologies change interaction models.
• Experience with performance engineering, profiling, instrumentation, budgeting, and optimization of modern web applications.
• Experience deploying large web applications at global scale, including bundling, CDNs, browser compatibility, and build tooling.
• Comfort working across the full stack, including APIs, backend services, and data layers.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, API design, and platforms serving internal developers and external users.
• Passion for developer experience and improving engineer productivity.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and contributing to engineering culture and hiring.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI-powered capabilities into user-facing products.
