Details
NVIDIA is seeking a senior system software engineer to design and implement OpenBMC firmware for GPU server platforms, with a focus on Arm architecture. The role involves BMC firmware bring-up, performance analysis, manageability features, platform monitoring, testing, security, and collaboration with hardware and software teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement OpenBMC firmware for GPU server platforms, including Arm-based platforms.
- Bring up BMC firmware, perform performance analysis, and develop manageability features for NVIDIA server platforms.
- Develop and review code and design documents, review QA test plans, and collaborate with team members on design and testability.
- Design solutions for errors, statistics, and configuration across CPUs, GPUs, DIMMs, SSDs, NICs, InfiniBand, PSUs, BMCs, FPGAs, CPLDs, and other server components.
- Design and develop performance-optimized active-monitoring BMC solutions using DMTF standards, including MCTP, Redfish, SPDM, and PLDM.
- Instrument code for maximum coverage and write and automate unit tests for implemented modules.
- Maintain detailed unit test case reports and provide software quality reports covering static analysis, code coverage, and CPU load.
- Collaborate with the security team to align code with product security goals.
- Work with hardware teams to influence hardware design and review hardware architecture and schematics.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- 8 or more years of experience.
- Domain expertise in BMC firmware development on x86 or Arm platforms, including BMC-BIOS communication, thermal management, power management, firmware updates, device monitoring, and firmware security.
- Board bring-up expertise and hands-on experience with device drivers and interfaces such as I2C/I3C, SPI, PCIe, SMBus, and mailbox systems.
- Experience with device trees for U-Boot and the Linux kernel.
- Out-of-band or in-band system management experience, with exposure to IPMI, KCS, DMTF standards such as PLDM, MCTP, and Redfish, PMBus, and NVMe.
- Understanding of REST architecture, particularly JSON over HTTPS with OAuth.
- Strong programming and scripting skills in C/C++, Bash, Python, and/or Go for Linux user-space and system programs.
- Strong code review skills and Linux fundamentals, including Linux distributions and packages, Linux upgrade mechanisms, and building and deploying Linux images.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, teamwork, work ethic, quality focus, and commitment to completing tasks.
- Self-starter who can develop creative solutions to challenging problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Contributions to industry standards or open-source projects such as Open Compute, OpenBMC, IPMI, and DMTF standards.
- Expertise in system software and platform security for x86- or Arm-based rack or blade server systems.
Benefits
- Base salary range of USD 184,000–287,500 for Level 4.
- Base salary range of USD 224,000–356,500 for Level 5.
