Software Engineer, Internal Identity

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. The Internal Identity team builds infrastructure that keeps access to Stripe's systems secure through strong authentication and authorization.

The team is building the next generation of authorization at Stripe, including systems that model relationships between people, services, resources, and AI agents. Technical challenges include building systems with 99.999%+ availability, expanding authorization controls, and making authorization policy authorship more approachable. Internal Identity is largely a distributed team with a small in-person presence in Seattle.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain reliable, performant, and scalable authorization infrastructure, including libraries, frameworks, and services.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the authorization needs of product and infrastructure teams.
• Build comprehensive, easy-to-use, policy-driven authorization solutions.
• Collaborate with users to help them adopt authorization solutions that protect their resources while providing a great user experience.
• Build access visibility and continuous policy governance to empower resource owners, legal, and compliance teams to control the risk of inappropriate access.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of professional hands-on software development experience.
• Experience in the security domain.
• Strong communication and cross-functional skills, with the ability to drive clear next steps when ownership is unclear.
• Preference for simple solutions and designs over complex ones, with good intuition for what is lasting and scalable.
• Good product sense and the ability to seek requirements from dependent teams and align them with business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the identity and authorization domain.
• Experience with Go, Java, or Ruby.
