Coinbase is building the future of institutional trading as part of its Institutional Everything Exchange, powering systems that let financial institutions trade across markets with speed, depth, and trust. This role owns the infrastructure, deployment, and operational tooling behind a unified trading platform running across cloud and on-premises/colocated venues. Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only, with quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”
Responsibilities
- Own infrastructure, deployment, and operational tooling for latency-sensitive, multi-node trading environments across cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
- Drive reliability and developer velocity by owning observability, deployment safety, and incident response for systems operating 24/7.
- Establish operational standards through reviews and automation, reducing single points of failure across the trading stack.
- Partner with engineers building the trading platform to make latency-sensitive systems operable and performant.
- Mentor engineers and build team resilience in a lean, high-impact environment.
- Partner with Product, Institutional Markets, and SRE to turn platform needs into a roadmap.
Requirements
- 8+ years of infrastructure, platform, or SRE engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of production systems at scale.
- A track record of running infrastructure for latency-sensitive trading environments, including on-premises or colocated deployments.
- Deep proficiency with orchestration tooling, containerized and bare-metal deployments, and observability and logging tooling.
- Strong Linux performance and networking fundamentals in latency-critical environments.
- Experience delivering end-to-end, including scoping, implementation, deployment safety, monitoring, and incident response.
- Experience in a regulated or financial environment where reliability and low-latency performance are critical.
- Ability to use generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight and delivering business-ready outputs.
