Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Financing Engineering team within the Institutional group. You will design, build, and scale systems that safely manage billions of dollars in loans across Portfolio Margin, Trade Finance, Agency Lending, Bilateral Lending, and other financing products. The team supports the Prime Brokerage business by enabling customers to use leverage on trading positions and generate yield on long holdings.

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and delivery of new financing products and features, from architecture through production launch, ensuring correctness and safety across high-value lending operations.
  • Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and frameworks supporting loan lifecycle management, risk calculations, and real-time position tracking.
  • Improve developer tooling, testing infrastructure, monitoring, and operational reliability across financing systems.
  • Partner with Product, Risk, Operations, and other engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable, well-scoped technical solutions each quarter.
  • Lead technical initiatives that strengthen system resilience, reduce operational risk, and support the team’s ability to ship safely at speed.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend software engineering experience, with production ownership of services handling high-reliability or financial workloads.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and scaling service-oriented architectures in Go, Java, or a comparable backend language.
  • Experience building and operating distributed systems where correctness, availability, and data integrity are critical.
  • Ability to mentor engineers, lead technical design reviews, and raise the bar on code quality across a team.
  • Familiarity with relational data stores, gRPC/Protobuf, and observability tooling in a cloud-native environment.
  • Responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

  • Annual base salary: $207,955–$218,900 USD, excluding equity and bonus.
  • Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.

Additional Information

  • Position ID: P78165.
  • Candidates may submit a maximum of three applications within a six-month period.
  • Coinbase is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
  • US applicants are subject to applicable employee rights, E-Verify, data privacy, and arbitration notices.
