Details

As a Staff Product Manager on the Tenant Scale area within Infrastructure Platforms, you’ll set product direction for how GitLab supports large, complex customers as they grow across departments, projects, and regions. This role focuses on making tenant data more portable and scalable and preparing for a unified deployment model across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and, over time, Self-Managed.

You’ll work at the intersection of product strategy, infrastructure, and customer needs, including horizontal scaling of GitLab’s SaaS architecture, tenant movement between environments, isolation and regional requirements, and the development of a more cellular architecture. At the Staff level, you’ll influence the broader Infrastructure Platforms direction, build the investment case for unified deployment capabilities, act as a recognized authority on multi-tenant and cellular SaaS architecture, and coach fellow product managers.

Responsibilities

  • Drive product strategy and direction for tenant scale and unified deployment capabilities across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and future deployment models.
  • Set quarterly and annual plans for tenant portability and platform unification, breaking large epics into issues and minimal valuable changes (MVCs).
  • Define requirements for the unified deployment platform, including capabilities required before tenants can be hosted in a unified deployment unit.
  • Partner with engineering counterparts and highly technical teams to translate infrastructure constraints and platform needs into product direction.
  • Collaborate with product peers across the platforms organization and align work spanning multiple groups.
  • Engage with internal and external customers to understand isolation, regional deployment, compliance, and operational-readiness needs.
  • Build business cases for tenant scale and unified deployment investments, including build, buy, and partner options.
  • Facilitate trade-off discussions around scalability, tenant encapsulation, deployment consistency, and platform unification.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into product plans, priorities, documentation, and delivery milestones, using error budgets and other performance indicators.
  • Represent GitLab as a trusted voice on cellular architecture and tenant scale in customer calls, events, and external forums.
  • Coach fellow product managers on direction updates, customer validation, GitLab’s architecture, and its technology stack.

Requirements

  • Experience managing product work in technical domains such as infrastructure, scalability, platform architecture, software delivery, or cloud services.
  • Ability to work effectively with deeply technical engineering teams and build credibility in discussions about system design, deployment models, and platform constraints.
  • Knowledge of SaaS or platform scaling concepts, including multitenancy, horizontal scalability, autoscaling, workload isolation, and production readiness.
  • Comfort working with customers or internal stakeholders on operational, compliance, or regional deployment requirements.
  • Skill in turning ambiguous technical problems into product strategy, plans, priorities, and actionable work.
  • Expertise in qualitative customer interviewing and product validation.
  • Experience building business cases, weighing build, buy, and partner options, and forecasting benefits against the competitive landscape.
  • Experience collaborating across product, engineering, user experience, and other cross-functional partners in a distributed environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex infrastructure topics to different audiences.
  • Recognition as a thought leader in a relevant domain through speaking, writing, or representing a company at customer events and conferences.
  • Transferable experience from engineering, technical support, or adjacent product roles relevant to large-scale platforms is welcomed.

Team

The team sits within Infrastructure Platforms and works on foundational platform capabilities. It partners closely with engineering, adjacent product managers, and internal customers across regions, with an emphasis on GitLab’s asynchronous working style and long-term platform thinking. Product managers share ownership of a common pool of work; at the Staff level, you’ll help guide prioritization and mentor teammates.
