Details

Anthropic is seeking an infrastructure engineer to design, operate, and scale secure, privacy-respecting systems that power data-driven decisions. The role works at the intersection of data systems, security, and scalability, collaborating with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders while working with cloud infrastructure primitives.

Responsibilities

Potential areas of focus include:

Data governance and access control: Design and implement access control systems, permission management, audit logging, IAM policies, ACLs, and security controls for sensitive data and large-scale user and system environments.
Financial data infrastructure: Build and maintain data pipelines and warehouses for business-critical reporting, including third-party revenue ingestion pipelines. Ensure the reliability, integrity, accuracy, and availability of systems processing revenue, usage, and business metrics.
Cloud storage and reliability: Architect disaster recovery, backup, and replication systems for petabyte-scale data. Ensure high availability and durability for cloud object storage and enable rapid recovery from data loss.
Data platform and tooling: Scale data processing infrastructure using BigQuery, BigTable, Airflow, dbt, and Spark. Optimize query performance, manage costs, and enable self-service analytics.
Set technical direction for teams and lead large-scale, complex projects.
Collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

10+ years of full-time Software Engineer experience, excluding internships and co-ops, building data infrastructure, storage systems, or related distributed systems.
3+ years of experience leading large-scale, complex projects or teams as an engineer or technical lead.
Strong proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or a similar programming language.
Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or Pulumi, and cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS.
Ability to evaluate tradeoffs involving performance, cost, security, and maintainability.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with security and compliance requirements, including ITGC, GDPR, and financial controls.
Background in data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, or analytics infrastructure.
Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud-native architectures.
Track record of improving data reliability, availability, or cost efficiency at scale.
Knowledge of column-oriented databases, OLAP systems, or big data processing frameworks.
Experience in fintech, financial services, or highly regulated environments.
Security engineering experience focused on data protection and access controls.
