Details

Anthropic is seeking an experienced software engineer to build the platform behind governance, risk, and compliance (GRC). The role focuses on bringing compliance information together from cloud infrastructure, identity providers, HR platforms, code repositories, and other systems to create automated checks, real-time dashboards, and audit evidence.

As an early member of the team, you will collaborate with Security, IT, Engineering, Privacy Engineering, Legal, Finance, and other stakeholders to turn manual compliance processes into scalable, reliable systems. You will lead projects end to end and use Claude through agentic workflows for evidence collection, analysis, and continuous monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build data pipelines that aggregate risk, control, and asset information across Anthropic's technology stack.
  • Solve integration challenges involving disparate schemas, inconsistent data quality, and unified views of security and compliance posture.
  • Build and maintain integrations with cloud infrastructure, identity management, HRIS, ticketing, version control, and CI/CD systems.
  • Enable automated evidence collection and continuous validation.
  • Translate written policies and regulatory requirements into policy-as-code, automated checks, and continuous monitoring.
  • Design and deploy agentic workflows in which Claude analyzes evidence, generates audit responses, and monitors control effectiveness.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting for engineers, executives, and external auditors.
  • Make architectural decisions and establish patterns and tooling for future platform development.
  • Partner with Security, IT, Infrastructure, and product engineering teams to integrate controls and evidence collection into engineering workflows.
  • Operate the systems you build, maintaining reliability and data integrity for audits and executive reporting.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building backend systems, data pipelines, or internal platforms used by other teams, ideally at a technical lead level.
  • Strong systems thinking and understanding of data flows, integration points, and failure modes between systems.
  • Depth in either integration engineering or data infrastructure, with fluency in the other area.
  • Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, authentication flows, event-driven architectures, warehousing, ELT/ETL, and orchestration.
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, or similar programming languages.
  • Production experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Strong focus on data quality, reliability, ownership, and automation of ambiguous or manual processes.
  • Ability to make independent technical decisions and take projects from design through deployment and operations.
  • Product-focused approach to internal platform development.
  • Interest in building with LLMs as system components, designing agentic workflows, evaluating outputs, and making them reliable for high-stakes use.
  • Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Required field of study: A relevant field demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in privacy engineering, data governance, fintech, healthcare, trust and safety, or another domain where engineering meets regulation.
  • Experience designing and shipping LLM-based or agentic automation in production or operational contexts.
  • Familiarity with SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, or FedRAMP.
  • Familiarity with GRC platforms such as ServiceNow, Vanta, Drata, or OneTrust.
  • Experience at high-growth startups building scalable processes and systems.

Compensation and Logistics

  • Annual salary: $320,000–$405,000 USD.
  • Anthropic currently expects staff to work from one of its offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time.
  • Anthropic sponsors visas, although sponsorship is not guaranteed for every role or candidate. The company retains an immigration lawyer to assist with visa processes.
  • Benefits include competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office collaboration space.
