Details

Anthropic's Infrastructure organization builds the systems that provide a fast, safe, and predictable path from software changes to production. This role owns major parts of the deployment platform end to end, including design, implementation, and production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction for major parts of the deployment platform and own them end to end.
  • Build rollout safety capabilities, including progressive delivery, health-gated promotion, automatic pause and rollback, and self-service deployment controls.
  • Design APIs and abstractions for both engineers and AI agents.
  • Extend the platform to support workload types and runtimes including Kubernetes, serverless, and edge platforms.
  • Build and operate runtime configuration and feature flag systems with validation, gradual rollout, and fast rollback.
  • Build infrastructure-as-code workflows for safe, routine changes.
  • Scale artifact distribution so code and configuration reach machines quickly and efficiently.
  • Partner with Security to provide verifiable builds, least-privilege access, and auditable changes.
  • Work with teams across Anthropic to understand deployment needs and onboard workloads to the platform.
  • Participate in on-call and incident response, using lessons learned to build preventative guardrails.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in at least one backend or systems programming language, such as Rust, Go, C++, or Java.
  • Experience leading the design, development, and operation of distributed systems or infrastructure in production, including providing technical direction across teams.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and containerized workloads, such as Kubernetes on AWS or GCP.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a field relevant to the role.

Preferred qualifications include experience building large-scale deployment, release, or change-management systems; production on-call and incident response; Rust in production; progressive delivery and GitOps tooling such as Argo CD or Argo Rollouts; Kubernetes controllers and operators; Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code systems; feature flags, experimentation, or dynamic configuration systems; artifact or package distribution such as OCI registries, Nix, or content-addressed storage; software supply-chain security; high-throughput workflow engines or control planes backed by relational databases; internal developer platforms; and systems operated by AI agents.

Representative Projects

  • Build operator controls for progressive rollouts, including pause and resume while preserving rollout state.
  • Design a deployment engine based on fine-grained targets and dependencies.
  • Build cluster-health-aware rollouts that avoid unhealthy clusters.
  • Add workload types with rollout, verification, and rollback behavior.
  • Design a deployment control plane that handles bursts of agent-driven traffic.
  • Design a distribution system that delivers configuration and artifacts across the fleet.

Compensation

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD.

Logistics

Anthropic expects staff to work from one of its offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time. Anthropic explicitly states that it sponsors visas, although sponsorship is evaluated for each role and candidate. The company offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office collaboration space.
