Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to gather quarterly for in-person working sessions called “surges.”
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Agent Engagement and Experience team within Coinbase's Enterprise Applications and Architecture organization, you will build customer experience platforms that power customer service and compliance processes for CX agents across the company. The team creates services, tools, and applications that help resolve customer issues and compliance KYC processes faster and with greater accuracy. You will anchor new projects, set technical direction, mentor engineers, and architect distributed systems that improve customer satisfaction and compliance outcomes at scale.
Responsibilities
- Architect and deliver distributed backend systems and foundational infrastructure components, including dynamic configuration, container orchestration, and secrets storage, using Go, gRPC, TypeScript, and React.
- Lead technical direction by defining strategic roadmaps with engineering management and stakeholders, and translating ambiguous problems into clear architectural plans with measurable outcomes.
- Build and scale high-reliability services that streamline CX agent workflows and compliance processes, owning delivery from design through production deployment.
- Mentor engineers on design techniques, coding standards, testing practices, and operational best practices.
- Partner cross-functionally with teams across multiple time zones to identify platform improvements, anticipate potential issues, and communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical leaders.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with the ability to architect and deliver distributed systems that solve ambiguous, high-impact problems.
- Deep proficiency in Go (Golang) and experience building scalable, high-traffic backend services in production.
- Experience with API development using gRPC and GraphQL, event-driven architectures using Kafka and MQ, and SQL or NoSQL databases.
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and DevOps tooling such as AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines such as BuildKite or similar.
- Experience with rate limiters, caching, load balancing, circuit breakers, and observability, including metrics, logging, and tracing.
- Proven ability to lead technical projects end-to-end, mentor engineers, and influence architectural decisions across teams without direct authority.
- Ability to use generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight while delivering business-ready outputs and improving workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
Compensation
The annual base salary range is $218,025–$256,500 USD, excluding equity and bonus. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
