Join the Advanced Trading team within Coinbase's Consumer & Business group as a Senior Software Engineer, Backend. You will help scale Coinbase Advanced trading products for customers around the globe and own the design and delivery of social, asset discovery, and real-time notification experiences across a wide range of asset classes. The role involves taking complex projects from concept to production with minimal oversight.

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called "surges."

Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end design, development, and reliability of high-performance backend services using Golang and gRPC.
Lead rapid experimentation and optimization of conversion funnels for key trading journeys, using data to prioritize high-impact opportunities.
Drive accelerated time to market for new features by making system design trade-offs across performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Champion software engineering best practices in design, coding, testing, documentation, monitoring, and alerting.
Partner cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, and designers across multiple time zones to translate product vision into quarterly roadmaps and high-impact outcomes.

Requirements

5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production systems, with significant experience in Golang and gRPC.
Proven experience designing scalable service architectures and making system design trade-offs across performance, reliability, and maintainability in high-throughput environments.
Hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Datadog, or similar cloud infrastructure tools.
Working knowledge of event-driven architectures, such as Kafka, MQ, or similar technologies.
Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases, third-party API integrations, GraphQL, and ETL pipelines.
Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous, multi-quarter projects from concept to production with minimal guidance and sound technical judgment.
Ability to use generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight and driving measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation and Benefits

Annual base salary range: $186,065–$218,900 USD, excluding equity and bonus.
Total compensation may include equity and bonus eligibility.
