About the Team

Money Movement teams build platforms and product experiences that enable businesses around the world to move money. This role drives the technical vision for how Stripe moves money at a global scale, spanning core financial APIs such as balances, transfers, and payouts, as well as financial integrations used to move billions of dollars globally.

The teams also run infrastructure that abstracts payment networks globally and exposes capabilities for moving money with different speeds, currencies, and costs. These systems are central to Stripe's plans for the next 5–10 years.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the technical roadmap for Money Movement.
• Ensure infrastructure is safely extensible, scalable, reliable, and meets SLAs for external and internal users.
• Shape future-proof interfaces that are easy to build against and meet product team requirements.
• Drive sound technical decision-making within Money Movement and lead technical conversations across Payments Infrastructure and Stripe.
• Run, design, and conduct code reviews for key Money Movement components.
• Partner with the engineering manager to mentor and develop senior engineering talent.
• Scope, design, build, and maintain APIs, services, and large-scale systems that reliably and efficiently handle billions of money movement requests.
• Debug and solve critical production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the company to build features at scale while improving engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
• Collaborate effectively in a distributed and hybrid team.

Requirements

• 10+ years of industry software engineering experience, with demonstrated impact at a staff or equivalent scope.
• Experience designing and shipping large-scale user-facing products with highly available and financially correct distributed backend systems.
• Experience leading cross-functional engineering projects end-to-end, from requirements through architecture, delivery, and post-launch iteration.
• Strong API design skills and the ability to build developer-friendly interfaces over complex financial and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to influence technical direction and align multiple teams without direct authority.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across engineering, product, and leadership.
• High ownership and comfort with ambiguity, including the ability to define problems and plans.
• Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or operating real-time transaction processing systems with strict latency and correctness requirements, including authorizations, payments, ledgering, or settlement.
• Familiarity with card network protocols, BIN sponsorship models, or issuing bank integrations such as Visa or Mastercard.
• Experience in regulated financial services, including compliance-aware system design, audit trails, financial controls, or KYC/KYB flows.
• Background in embedded finance, card-as-a-service, or Banking-as-a-Service platforms.
• Experience with high-volume event-driven architectures and their reliability and consistency tradeoffs.
• Track record of mentoring senior engineers and contributing to engineering hiring and culture.
