Details

Anthropic is hiring a software engineer to build and operate the secure execution environment behind Claude's agentic capabilities. The team owns the infrastructure used when Claude writes and runs code, browses the web, or uses a computer. The work sits at the intersection of systems engineering and security, with a focus on making untrusted code execution safe, fast, and reliable at scale.

Responsibilities

Independently scope complex, multi-month projects.
Drive cross-organizational alignment through ambiguous problem spaces.
Make architectural decisions that shape how Anthropic builds and scales its products.
Partner directly with research teams to productize cutting-edge capabilities.
Build and scale foundational platform systems used by hundreds of thousands of companies and internal and external engineers.
Take full ownership of work from design through deployment and operations.
Build robust, scalable, and easy-to-use platform solutions.

Requirements

At least 8 years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer building scalable distributed systems.
Experience operating at a technical lead level or equivalent.
Experience with distributed systems, cloud-native products, developer tools, or external developer-facing products.
Strong fundamentals in service-oriented architectures, networking, and systems design.
Experience owning the technical vision and execution of a foundational platform system end to end.
Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or similar systems languages.
Experience with cloud infrastructure such as GCP, AWS, or Azure; container orchestration such as Kubernetes; and/or multi-cloud networking.
Ability to navigate ambiguity and make sound technical decisions independently.
Experience in both 0-to-1 and more mature team or company settings is preferred.
Product-focused approach to platform work.
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Relevant field of study as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Compensation

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD.

Logistics

Locations: San Francisco, California; New York City, New York; or Seattle, Washington.
Hybrid policy: Staff are expected to work from one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time.
Visa sponsorship is available, although Anthropic may not be able to sponsor every role or candidate.
