Details

OpenAI is hiring a full-time program and community manager to shape how the company engages with college campuses where adoption of its tools is most advanced. The role owns relationships with selected campuses populated by builders and future startup founders, develops engagement strategy, supports student leaders, and coordinates with community, marketing, product, recruiting, startup, education, and agency teams.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop relationships with standout student leaders at leading global campuses.
  • Learn each campus's culture, priorities, and opportunities and identify where OpenAI can provide value.
  • Support campus leaders with semester planning, member recruitment, and sustainable campus engagement.
  • Serve as the primary contact between OpenAI and campus chapters, helping students navigate resources, opportunities, and support.
  • Partner with chapter leaders and groups to design and execute events, workshops, and campus activations.
  • Design and refine engagement formats that help students build with and stay current on OpenAI tools.
  • Connect campus leaders with relevant OpenAI teams, speakers, programs, partners, and opportunities.
  • Coach campus leaders as they grow communities and programs, and strengthen connections among leaders.
  • Capture insights, playbooks, and best practices and translate them into resources for the global Campus Leaders network.
  • Surface exceptional students, projects, and community initiatives to relevant OpenAI teams.
  • Gather community feedback and share insights that inform product, education, and community strategy.
  • Strengthen the network of student leaders shaping how the next generation learns, builds, and collaborates with AI.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of AI tools, including ChatGPT, Codex, OpenAI APIs, and coding workflows, with the ability to help students build, debug, prototype, and apply OpenAI products in highly technical projects.
  • Personal experience building, prototyping, or shipping projects using AI tools, APIs, agents, coding assistants, or related developer workflows.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with ambitious, highly capable people.
  • Strong project and program management skills, including experience coordinating events, initiatives, or communities involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate independently, exercise good judgment, and navigate ambiguity.
  • Strong understanding of AI-native builder culture and technical builder communities, including the ability to recognize exceptional AI projects, workflows, students, and communities.
  • Experience designing and executing community programs, events, workshops, fellowships, ambassador programs, or similar initiatives.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple campus relationships simultaneously.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience working with university students, campus organizations, startups, research communities, or developer ecosystems.
  • Experience running hackathons, conferences, workshops, or other community-driven events.
  • Experience gathering community insights and translating them into recommendations for product, education, or marketing teams.
  • Experience creating community content, newsletters, guides, or playbooks.
  • Existing relationships within leading universities, student organizations, research communities, or entrepreneurial ecosystems.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $162,000–$240,000 per year.
  • Equity, performance-related bonuses for eligible employees, and benefits may be included.
