AI Deployment Engineer, Digital Natives

The AI Deployment Engineer team ensures the safe and effective deployment of generative AI applications for developers and enterprises. The team acts as a trusted advisor and thought partner for customers, building backlogs of frontier AI use cases and driving them to production through strong technical guidance.

In the Digital Native segment, this role helps large and sophisticated companies transform their businesses through custom AI applications, including customer service, automated content generation, contextual search, personalization, and other use cases leveraging OpenAI's models and capabilities.

The role is based in the San Francisco or Seattle office and follows a hybrid work model requiring three days in the office per week.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical thought partner for sophisticated platform customers, helping them ideate and build novel applications using OpenAI APIs.
• Provide proactive guidance to maximize business impact and accelerate customer time to value.
• Experiment with and prototype solutions for customers.
• Establish AI strategic roadmaps with senior customer leaders and identify high-value applications.
• Partner with customer engineering and product teams to move solutions from prototype through production.
• Design enterprise architectures using OpenAI APIs and other services to maximize customer value.
• Forge and manage relationships with customer leadership and stakeholders to support successful application deployment and scaling.
• Contribute to open-source developer and enterprise resources.
• Scale the AI Deployment Engineering function by sharing knowledge, codifying best practices, and publishing cookbooks to internal and external repositories.
• Validate, synthesize, and deliver high-signal feedback to Product, Engineering, and Research teams.
• Collaborate closely with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Applied Research, and Product.

Requirements

• 5+ years of technical consulting or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in Python and JavaScript.
• Experience building and/or delivering prototypes on top of the OpenAI API platform.
• Experience leading complex technical projects and programs involving many stakeholders.
• Ability to identify opportunities to maximize customer business value through OpenAI APIs.
• Ability to own problems end-to-end and acquire missing knowledge as needed to ensure team and customer success.
• Interest in contributing to the development of frontier AI capabilities by channeling field feedback to product and applied research teams.
• Humble attitude and eagerness to help others with empathy.
• Ability to operate with significant ownership, manage frequent context switching and multiple projects, and prioritize effectively.
• Ability to thrive in dynamic environments and navigate ambiguity.
