Details
ClickHouse is seeking exceptional C++ engineers to join its remote-first, global Core Engineering team. The team owns the core ClickHouse Open Source project and works on scaling and optimizing highly distributed systems, as well as supporting ClickHouse Cloud offerings.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to, analyze, and optimize the performance of the core ClickHouse database.
- Work on query optimization, distributed query optimization, relational operators such as aggregation and joins, caching, and low-level optimizations including SIMD instructions.
- Extend existing performance tests and add new tests based on real-world or synthetic datasets to prevent database performance regression.
- Support the Support Engineering team by debugging advanced customer performance issues, including participation in an on-call rotation and external community support channels.
- Collaborate closely with other teams to assess the performance and reliability impact of new features.
- Work with the open-source community by resolving issues, reviewing and completing pull requests, and answering questions across email, chats, Google Groups, external Slack channels, and other forums.
Requirements
- Solid professional software development experience in C++.
- Experience with Unix/Linux systems.
- Strong knowledge of database internals and design.
- Experience in performance engineering, ideally in a database or in areas such as high-frequency trading, simulation, or real-time data processing.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Willingness to work closely with the open-source community and participate in detailed, respectful code reviews.
- Strong problem-solving and production debugging skills.
- Passion for efficiency, availability, scalability, and data governance.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
- A high level of responsibility, ownership, and accountability.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with ClickHouse.
- Experience in security, privacy, and compliance.
- Experience with TCP/IP and network programming.
- Experience developing cloud infrastructure services, preferably with Kubernetes.
- Experience giving public talks at technical conferences and meetups.
- Previous contributions to open-source projects.

Compensation
The typical starting salary in the United States is $141,000–$208,000 USD per year. A premium market range of $157,000–$230,000 USD per year may apply in certain locations, including the San Francisco Bay Area and the New York City Metro Area. Actual compensation depends on factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs.
