Grafana Labs is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Ingest team within its Observability department. Grafana Labs is a fully remote company, and this position is remote. Candidates are being considered in Germany, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, and the UK only.

Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform integrating metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. It enables customers to use open-source observability software, including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope, without managing and scaling their own observability stack.

The Ingest team builds and maintains configuration and deployment tooling that helps customers implement observability. The team owns Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub. Fleet Management is a cloud-based control plane for managing hundreds of thousands of Observability Collectors. The Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart supports observability collection in Kubernetes environments, while the Instrumentation Hub combines both products to provide a guided, one-command instrumentation experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage and develop a distributed team of backend and frontend engineers across EMEA and NASA, providing regular feedback and supporting career growth.
• Collaborate closely with go-to-market teams to help customers and prospects succeed with their observability collection journey.
• Work with product and engineering leadership to ensure Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub fit into the end-to-end Grafana Cloud user experience.
• Guide projects from early ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch, helping the team consistently deliver high-quality results.
• Foster a psychologically safe environment where engineers can learn, experiment, and iterate quickly.
• Encourage innovation and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to projects beyond the team’s scope and partner across functions to solve customer problems.
• Use AI-assisted development tools, including tools from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, within security guidelines and alongside strong code review and quality standards.

Requirements

• Experience with observability, particularly OpenTelemetry, or with building a central control plane for managing fleets of collectors is advantageous.
• Ability to work with autonomous engineering teams on both technical and product decisions.
• Strong people-management and relationship-management skills, combined with up-to-date technical knowledge.
• Experience collaborating across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment.
• Clear and empathetic communication skills, with the ability to build trust, connection, and psychological safety.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and improve team performance.
• Strong customer focus and the ability to ground technical decisions in user needs and real-world impact.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
• Curiosity about AI-assisted and agentic development, ideally with practical experience integrating AI-powered tools into team workflows.
