Details
Grafana Labs is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Ingest team within the Observability department. Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform integrating metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana, including open-source technologies such as Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope.
The role is remote and open to candidates located in Germany, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. The team is distributed across EMEA and North America.
The Ingest Team
The Ingest team builds and maintains configuration and deployment tooling that helps customers adopt observability. The team owns:
- Fleet Management, a cloud-based control plane for managing hundreds of thousands of Observability Collectors.
- The Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart, used to deploy observability collection in Kubernetes environments.
- The Instrumentation Hub, which combines Fleet Management and the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart to provide a one-command instrumentation experience.
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop backend and frontend engineers, providing regular feedback and supporting individual growth through career conversations.
- Collaborate with go-to-market teams to help customers and prospects succeed with their observability collection journey.
- Work with product and engineering leadership to ensure Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub fit seamlessly into the end-to-end Grafana Cloud user experience.
- Guide projects from early ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch activities.
- Lead the team in delivering consistently high-quality results.
- Foster a psychologically safe environment where engineers can learn, experiment, iterate quickly, and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Work across team boundaries and partner with other functions to solve customer problems.
- Support pragmatic AI-assisted development, including prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and incident follow-ups, while maintaining strong code review and quality standards.
Requirements
- Experience with observability, especially OpenTelemetry, or with building a central control plane for managing fleets of collectors is a strong advantage.
- Experience working with autonomous engineering teams in technical and product decision-making environments.
- Ability to stay current with technical trends and understand the challenges faced by engineering teams.
- Experience collaborating across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and improve team performance.
- Strong customer focus and the ability to ground technical decisions in user needs and real-world impact.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
- Curiosity about AI-assisted and agentic development, with practical experience incorporating AI-powered tools into team workflows preferred.
Benefits
- 100% remote, global work environment.
- Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
- Company-funded usage budget for modern AI coding assistants.
- Career growth pathways.
- In-person onboarding.
- Global annual leave policy of 30 days per year, including three Grafana Shutdown Days, subject to local legislation.
- Transparent communication, empowered teams, and an open-source-focused culture.
Compensation
