Engineering Manager - Observability

Grafana Labs is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Ingest team within its Observability department. The team builds and maintains configuration and deployment tooling that helps customers adopt observability, including Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub.

Grafana Labs is a 100% remote company with team members across more than 40 countries. This role is remote and open to candidates in Germany, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

Responsibilities

• Manage and develop a team of backend and frontend engineers, providing regular feedback and supporting career growth through career conversations.
• Collaborate closely with go-to-market teams to help customers and prospects succeed with their observability collection journey.
• Work with product and engineering leadership to ensure Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub fit seamlessly into the end-to-end Grafana Cloud user experience.
• Guide projects from early ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch activities.
• Help the team consistently deliver high-quality results.
• Foster a psychologically safe environment where engineers can learn, experiment, and iterate quickly.
• Encourage innovation and a culture of continuous improvement.
• Work across team boundaries by contributing to projects outside the team’s scope and partnering with other functions to solve customer problems.

Requirements

• Experience in observability, especially OpenTelemetry, or in building a central control plane that manages fleets of collectors is a strong advantage.
• Experience working with autonomous engineering teams and supporting technical and product decision-making.
• Ability to maintain an up-to-date understanding of technical trends and the challenges faced by engineering teams.
• Experience collaborating across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment.
• Clear, empathetic communication skills and the ability to build trust, connection, and psychological safety.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and elevate team performance.
• Strong customer focus, grounding decisions and technical choices in user needs and real-world impact.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
• Curiosity and comfort with AI-assisted tooling and agentic development, ideally including practical experience integrating AI-powered tools into team workflows.

Compensation And Benefits

• Ireland base compensation range: EUR 117,000–EUR 137,000 per year.
