Automattic is seeking talented and experienced software engineers worldwide to help build and improve its product ecosystem and make the web a better place. The company works on products including WordPress, WooCommerce, Gutenberg, Tumblr, and AI-powered developments.

Responsibilities

Contribute to Automattic’s global, distributed product ecosystem.
Build and maintain useful, high-quality products for customers.
Work with open-source software and contribute to open-source projects where appropriate.
Participate in peer code review, continuous integration, and frequent deployments.
Collaborate with colleagues across global communication channels and distributed teams.
Debug complex problems and understand the layers of abstraction below and above your work.
Travel for approximately 3–4 weeks per year to meet teammates in person.

Requirements

Production experience with several programming languages, frameworks, and programming paradigms.
Comfort with becoming an expert in PHP and JavaScript; experience with these languages is not required to apply.
Strong focus on quality and attention to detail.
Enjoyment of debugging and solving complex technical problems.
Understanding of abstraction, including its costs and benefits.
Experience working at scale, either on backend and performance challenges or with the complexity of a diverse, multi-million-user base.
Ability and willingness to work effectively in a global, distributed environment.
