Details
Anthropic’s Business Technology Engineering team builds and operates the internal platforms and collaboration tooling used across the company. The team embeds engineers with Legal, Security, Communications, Product Operations, Product Support, and other business functions to redesign workflows with Claude at the center.
The engineering organization operates across two tracks: Platforms, which builds and operates shared systems such as Claude Support and the platform layer used by employees, and Forward Deployed, which works directly with business functions to demonstrate Claude’s value in real workflows, hand off solutions to durable owners, and drive adoption.
The role reports to the Head of Business Technology and IT within the Security organization and partners closely with IT Engineering, Security Engineering, Labs, Product, GTM, Legal, Workplace, Communications, Product Operations, and Product Support.
Responsibilities
- Lead and scale a global engineering organization; hire, level, and develop engineering leads.
- Partner on and execute a year-plus roadmap for how Anthropic’s business functions use Claude, including associated success metrics.
- Run the Platforms track, focusing on the reliability, velocity, and scale of Claude Support and the shared platform layer used by employees.
- Run the Forward Deployed track, including engagement portfolios, prioritization across functions, handoffs to durable owners, and adoption.
- Serve as the technical executive partner to leaders of Legal, Workplace, Communications, Product Operations, and Product Support.
- Partner with Labs and Product on internal dogfooding, provide evaluation-based feedback, and ship internal builds that can become external product patterns.
- Represent Anthropic’s internal operating model to Enterprise customers alongside GTM.
- Set engineering standards for production-adjacent builds, evaluation rigor, reusable patterns, and responsible deployment using real data and permissions.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience and 6+ years leading engineers.
- At least 3 years managing managers and experience leading an organization of 20 or more people across multiple domains.
- Experience running internal tools, business systems, or platform engineering at a company that expanded functions faster than engineering headcount.
- Ability to discuss reliability outcomes on the platform side and adoption outcomes on the embedded side.
- Strong technical judgment, including the ability to evaluate agent architectures, evaluation designs, and failure modes.
- Ability to guide General Counsel, business-function leaders, and senior engineers through technical trade-offs and bring them to committed decisions.
- Ability to maintain a high engineering bar, prioritize high-leverage work, and communicate decisions effectively.
- Interest in owning how a frontier AI lab uses its own models responsibly with real data, permissions, and people.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forward-deployed, software engineering, or applied AI leadership experience with external customers.
- Product management experience or a track record of partnering closely with product managers and analysts.
- Experience with corporate systems such as Salesforce, Workday, Google Workspace, or Slack at platform scale.
- Experience creating career rubrics or leveling frameworks for new engineering roles, or establishing a forward-deployed function from scratch.
