Are you an inspiring IT Expert Lead with a strong affinity for Data and AI who can connect strategy, technology and people? As Head of Data Infrastructure & Reliability Engineering within the Data Governance & Management Value Domain, you will enable the enterprise-wide Data & AI platform, including Atlas, across ABN AMRO. You will lead teams responsible for designing, operating and continuously improving the infrastructure, automation, monitoring and reliability capabilities supporting data management, engineering, governance, analytics and AI solutions.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of IT and Data specialists, including hiring, onboarding, performance management and talent development.
  • Lead distributed onshore and offshore engineering teams, ensuring effective delivery and operational excellence.
  • Foster ownership, collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Support internal and external audits and maintain audit readiness.
  • Prepare budget plans and optimise investments in line with financial frameworks and strategic priorities.
  • Engage with the Central Data & AI Office, Data Domains, Analytics teams, Data Governance and Risk functions to drive adoption and alignment.

Domain Responsibilities

  • Translate data strategy into solutions, guidelines and IT implementations across domains.
  • Align data governance, data engineering and enablement, and AI products.
  • Monitor and report on adoption and effectiveness of IT and data standards and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, security and data governance requirements.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability and quality of IT systems and data platforms.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation and automation.

Data Infrastructure & Reliability Engineering

  • Deliver, support and maintain reliable Data & AI infrastructure and platform capabilities, including Atlas.
  • Design and standardise infrastructure and reliability engineering capabilities for scalable, secure and efficient Data & AI services.
  • Drive observability, monitoring, alerting, incident response, performance management and capacity planning.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, configuration and operational controls.
  • Manage incidents, changes, root-cause analysis and operational support in collaboration with other Data & AI platform teams.
  • Define operational standards for availability, resilience, recoverability, security and compliance.
  • Support dashboards and monitoring for platform health, reliability, usage, cost, performance and operational risk.
  • Support data domains and CIOs with platform adoption for Data & AI solutions.

Working Environment

You will work within the Value Stream Technology and the management team of the Data Governance & Management Value Domain. The environment includes Data Quality, BI & Analytics, Data Lineage and Data Marketplace capabilities. Teams operate using a DevOps model and collaborate across Data Engineering & Enablement, AI Platforms and Products.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in IT or Data roles, including at least 1 year in a leadership position.
  • Knowledge of Data Platforms, IT platform management, Data Management and Data Governance.
  • Broad understanding of IT architecture, platforms, security and operations.
  • Experience managing distributed engineering or data teams, including offshore delivery teams.
  • Experience with product and platform ownership in complex, regulated environments.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking with a focus on operational excellence.
  • Experience designing and operating enterprise-scale Data & AI infrastructure and platform services.
  • Experience with reliability engineering practices, including observability, monitoring, alerting, incident response, root-cause analysis, capacity management and service-level management.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, DevOps, CI/CD, configuration management and operational control frameworks.
  • Ability to translate security, compliance and continuity requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery, resilience engineering and audit readiness for critical technology platforms.
  • Experience driving operational excellence, cost optimisation and automation across complex platform landscapes.
  • Experience embedding reliability, resilience and security-by-design practices across engineering teams and platform services.
